Link Popularity

Hai,

Link Popularity in general is adding quality links to a website. Adding links would greatly help in two main things, first, it helps in the increase of traffic to your site and next it increases the Page Rank. If the Page Rank increases, automatically your site will get a good position in the search engines. The links can be added in two ways

Importance of Link Popularity
Link popularity is the representation of total number of web pages which link to an individual web page or a website. Link popularity can also be said as a measure of the quality and quantity of other web sites that are linking to a specific site on the World Wide Web.

Link popularity is considered to be important because it is a key factor used by search engines which determines a website's position obtained during search results. In general a website having many inbound links will be placed at a higher rank than a similar site having fewer links. Some of the search engines would require at least one or more links linking to a website for indexing, otherwise the site is not indexed.

The philosophy behind link popularity is that important and quality websites will attract many links to its site. Generally Content-poor sites will have the difficulty of obtaining any links. An inbound link coming from a major directory is of more weightage than an inbound link from a vague personal home page. So, link popularity depends on the quality of incoming links and not by the number of links in a website.

One of the first search engines that used link popularity as a key factor in ranking websites was Google. One can check the number of links pointing to a website (link popularity) by querying Google with the search keywords "link:http://whateversite.com" (without the red quotes). Most search engines have similar functions for link popularity check.
