Lightbulb Is the internet looking worse

Hello fellow YE forum members. I have recently started to notice this and it annoys me so very very much, and i felt the need to share it with you.

It seems that the whole web has been filled up with crappy sites, full of ads - directories, etc. All of these sites - have an absolutely aufull layout, not to say that some have no layout at all - just a pile of text, "beautifully" decorated with ads

My estimation a couple of years back was that by now all sites would be designed and presented in a more post modern fasion - most people don't even know what flash is

I am beggining to belive that this is an obsession of mine... Why, you might ask? Well on varius forums i have been on, and usually checked out topics like "Review my site" etc. most of them are, the kinds of sites i mensioned before. And below i see different reply's :

"Great site, good content"
"Keep up the good job"
"How much are you making on adsense"

If you ask me... if i go to a site wich has no aesthetic appeal to me, as the webmaster never bothered to spice it up, i never bother to read the content.

So please, tell me - am I crazy, or is this phenomenon actually notisable by others

Cheers

I will have to agree with you here. I am beginning to see this more and more. I think its because the internet is for everyone know. More open source and CMS are being made, now in a few clicks you can create a website and what better way to pay your bills than ADVERTISING! I personally think it's mad how easy it is these days. But, with some losses there are gains and the web hosting business is a good one to be in at the moment. Example of ad's - look at the top of this thread!

May i add, All the sites hosted on WicksHosting are proper sites and have no stupid ad's!!

While the web creates a space for real companies like Apple and Amazon to grasp hundreds of additional markets and product segments they would not be able to obtain without the web. It also creats a place where people can have a store up in an hour opposed to months with a physical location. That means millions of those who could not dream of a business now have an opportunity. However, sadly these people most of whom lack business knowledge,find that while there is less financial risk, the chance of market saturation is inevitable. These people who now have shitty template sites and domain names ind out the truths about the e-commerce environment and ditch their sites, or conitinue to generate no profits on a horriblbly designed site. People forget internet commerce operates the same as brick in mortar in a broad sense. You cant run a good business if you have no business knowledge. Most people ignore that and you find them here asking A-Z about how to start and run their "fail proof" business ideas.

Flash is out. A lot of sites that use to have Flash intros abandoned them because they take up a lot of space and people basically see the same intros over and over again whenever they visit the site.

I do agree with you that a lot of sites aren't asthetically appealing. However many people value content more than how nicely a site is decorated. For instance, craigslist.org has no design at all but it is ranked 37 on Alexa. People visit the site for the content that they provide.

I think you misread the first post! This thread is about the visual aspects of Websites - not the business aspects.

I disagree- Flash has many more functions other then just intros;
You'll see the number of fully flash and hybrid sites expand as broadband continues to become more popular. Adobe will adapt flash as needed to keep its market.
