Wow, i'm interested in that Spokane Downtown Wi-Fi. So it's absolutely FREE!?! You just get your notebook computer, a wireless-g card, persay, and you're online ready to go?
What the hell, do you know if Phoenix has one up! O.o

Yep, that's right - free high speed internet to EVERYONE in a 10 block radius (it actually bleeds out to about 12 blocks) - it's great - I can drive through downtown instant messaging people and downloading MP3's. Actually, if you do some research on Spokane, we're pretty advanced as far as technology goes. We've one a lot of awards for tech innovations. You wouldn't expect it out of this old railroad city but we're comin up, slowly but surely.

It's really helped the economy around here - more visitors from Canada and surrounding areas come here because of the great technology they get to use while on vacation.
Send the link of www.spokanehotzone.com to someone in your city hall or to the small business center - maybe they'll consider it after seeing how cool it is

Speaking of laptops, anyone know of a good place to get a relatively cheap, but good spec-wise, laptop for < $1000 CDN?

I use an hp zd7000 laptop. It works really great. you can check out the forums at www.zd7000forums.com. A lot of helpful info.
I connect with wifi when I do research or work at a local bookstore and coffee shops that offer free wifi. At home, its just the basic cable modem.
