Internet Marketing And How You Started

Internet Marketing, I'm sure this is a topic familiar to everybody here. It is probably one of the most crucial and fundamental element to succeed in Internet Businesses

Perhaps we could share a little on how we started and the problems faced. Maybe even add in some tips and tricks to give a little aid to those who's reading and new to internet marketing. Before continuing, please forgive me if any similar topic has been posted in the past as I've yet to come across any.

well....

my story is like this

my family came as immigrants to Australia when i was 11 in '94

i finished primary school and went to highschool

in final years of school I had to make decisions about what I had to study

I sucked less at business, economics and IT so I completed these subjects and enrolled at university

I started a dual degree program offered in tandem by both business and law schools at UTS

during high school I had operated a night club with my friend because we liked to meet girls this way

in 1st year, I had attended a talk by a venture capitalist about commercializing technology

the guy seemed cool, i didn't really think about other career options, so I decided that I wanted to work as a vc

the problem was that my resume was largely blank, so I needed to start a business and get some track record

I started a couple of offline ventures. they did ok

then I met a programming guy through my brother

my brothers was rapidly becoming very different to mine (he didn't go to uni), so I though we better go into business together or we're not gonna have anything in common

we started a few adsense sites and such

then the whole web2.0 thing started happening

so we started a blogging business

it was too hard because our competitors were giving away software for free whilst we were charging people

so I quit that and joined friends doing an Australian version of facebook

now I'm selling the same technology to corporate customers who wanna have a better understanding of their employees (so they know who to promote and who to fire)

over the course of all this stuff, I can't even remember how many peripheral deals I've done

unfortunately, I haven't learned a bloody thing!

my doctor tells me I'm clinically stupid

I've read many of your posts, akula, and if you really are clinically stupid then clinically stupid must mean being a genius...

I just started internet marketing about 6 and a half months ago. I got to work for webmaster staffing company and after months of getting used to the web flow of things, I can say I'm just the average Jane. There are a lot of geniuses out here (akula? ) and I feel so overwhelmed by them. What I do now is try to increase my pace of doing things and learn a lot from forums and fellow internet marketers to develop more skills.
