Question How To Set Up Internet Business

hey all
let me start by saying in advance how much i appreciate any advice/replies.

Basically, i have a very very good idea for an internet business which i think will be very succesful. I dont want to say too much just yet but basically its going to be a site where you ask for tutorials/advice/information of a sort, some which will be free, some accessed through a paid subscritption.

What i'd like to know is exactly how to get started. Im going to do a lot of reading up and getting myself sorted before i begin, but how do you for example buy your domain (the ones i want are all .com but always come up as unavailable-some idiot using it as a search engine) and who do i get to design my website?

Also, who could i talk to in detail in confidence that they wont steal my idea?!?!

Finally:money. How much money is there in free sites? if i kept the site free to enter then how would i make money?

I realise im at the very beginning of what i hope will be both a very enjoyable and profitable journey, but i really want to do it the right way. I know very little about web design/profitability on the internet etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read this/help me!

hey Ryan,
First of all good luck to you on your new venture what ever it may be. As for your questions:

Purchasing a domain name:
- You can get a domain name from godaddy.com for a reasonable price (about $10.00 for a year)
- You should try to come up with a name that is not in a ordinary dictionary or combination of multiple words. It is all about being creative.
- You can also try to find a good name and add "online" behind it (i.e. mycompanyonline.com)

For consultation:
- If you want I could help you with the technical part. I offer free consultation. As for business consultation you can just post questions on forums like this on and do some research. Remember it is your business and if any and every one can tell you how to run it, you might not want to invest in it.

Is there any money in free sites:
YouTube, Digg, Myspace, ect. The real question is do you have the resources to support a free service until it becomes profitable. It takes a lot of traffic to make a free service profitable. YouTube is one of the most popular websites on the internet and they still could not make a profit (they did however get purchased by Google for $1.6 billion). You could shoot for that also.

With a low cost to start up you can test a few ideas to get a better understanding of how to make money on the internet. But for a business you will have to put in some real work and time.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hi Ryan,
I helped design a site that is very similiar to what you are proposing. In doing so we created a scenario where those who came and made use of all the free tools and tutorials were able to generate income equal to or many cases in excess of the founders. You can link to it via my sig file sign up for the free account and peruse to your hearts content - you might get some great ideas and if you decide to develop your own system you might find a way to create a synergy/partnership with a program like ours. Your thoughts?

hi ryan,
your idea is very good, but you need to find a good solution without effect your main idea.

actually, the biggest problem for newbie is to start or take the 1st action. It happen to me too. I had been share my idea with somebody and agree to joint venture for that idea. Unfortunately, he already run a business with my idea and never contact me again. I learn so much thing from that mistake, don't believe anybody easily.

i hope you can make little investment for domain and hosting. And just like onecorp and solomonsmine told you, actually there are way to generate money with little investment. Good luck with your business.
