How to own the Internet

My goal in life is to generate about 10% of the Internet's traffic each day. I like to get some other people's opinion on how a person would do this. What ideas do all of you have? Please post any comments and ideas.

ex. what service/product i should offer.

10% of the internet's traffic is quite a feat, I don't think any network in the world commands that much traffic.

If you want that much, you'll need to own mass media websites. I suggest starting your own CNN, Google, various social networking/blogging sites, and buying tons of traffic domains.

Stories of the Impossible

Henry Ford was the founder of the automobile company we know today as Ford. During the early 1900's, Henry's company commanded about the majority of market shares in the automobile industry. His success is mainly due to his company's famous model, "T". At his time, he was able to own the entire market with only one type of car and this car was only available in black! This sounds impossbile, but it was done. Henry Ford was also creadited for his V8 engine. In the early 1900's engineers said that it was impossible to fit 8 pistions into one engine. Henry didn't listen to them, because he understood that technology is always advancing, and that the limit to our creation is only the limit to which we imagine.

The point I am trying to get here is that anything is possible if you have a goal or desire of some sort. I think everyone would agree with me here, because think back in history, we invented the "Atom bomb", we went to the moon and I dont believe people ever thought it was possible in the 1800.

The user "Antdizzle" said that none would tell me if they really know how to do it.

My response to that is, "No body really knows anything". I understand that the point of this site is to help young entreprenuers. I think the greatest gift you can give to a person is a dream and open his mind.

"I think there is a world for maybe five computer." -The founder of IBM, Thomas J. Watson

It just to show you that none can tell be prepare for the future, unless they try to influence it.

I really like get other people's opinion on how this might be done.

10% would be quite the undertaking.

I think even top news stories don't reach that level.

If you were to try it, do it blogstyle and recruit the world into the effort.

It's good to be ambitious

But I'd have to say in order to achieve this you would need to create a site which was very appealing to most Internet users, it would need to be a site that people would see as a necessity - as the site they want to visit (and a good design and domain would also help here)

It would be interesting to see what traffic Google pulls in and what percentage that is considered as the 'total' Internet traffic. If Google isn't pulling 10% then you would need something more well-known and more popular than Google - now that is a challenge, especially considering Google are actually competing with Microsoft and are devloping at a rapid rate - moving from a search engine to a mass-media and advertising giant.

cheers

I read some where that google commands around 55% of the internet searches and yahoo commands something like 25%, now I read this article like 2 weeks ago so I may be off a little but the numbers should be close. So to command 10% of the internet you would have to probably build the next Yahoo or Google.

You're not comparing apples to apples here. You said it yourself, he was the only one with the product, so commanding the market is a simple task. If you were the only website on the internet, you'd get the same response - but that's not how it is.

I partly agree with what you are saying. If i do have an unique service/product than perhaps I could accomplish what i drea.

The part I dont agree with you is that if i can provide a service better than anyone else, then i to can generate popularity. As mention by someone else, Google command a great share of research quarries. Do any of you remember how it got started? Google was made popular because it was simple, fast, and its search engine algorithm was better than any other search engines. The point is that Google is popular because it provide a service better than anyone else, not because it has an orginall idea. I mean long before Google came around, there was other search engines, but Google became the best.

Thanks for you response.

Like I said, I just want to get people's take on this issue

Well for starters, everything Yahoo! has, Google's powerful search technology - a community that makes MySpace look weak, Music/Video downloads that will rival MP3.com, itunes.com, launch.com, etc. - There's a start.
