How do you insert links inside image?

I'm just wondering:

Say I have a picture of a man (full body).

What I'm aiming for is, if I click on the man's chest, I go to another page, and if I click on his head, I go to another page.

So essentially several different links imbedded inside the same image.

How do you go about that? I originally planned to paste another image over the original image (ie. copy a seperate image of the man's chest over the original full-body image), but for some reason Dreamweaver won't allow me to do that. Anyone got any ideas?

You have to use HTML Image Mapping (or image hotspots) it quite an easy thing to do and learn. Here is a tutorial I found:

while it helps to know whats going on behind the scenes (or code for that matter)

save yourself some time and use Frontpage or Dreamweaver to code your HTML image map for you.

You can also put an image on top of a another image using CSS Layers. Dreamweaver will allow you to do that and image mapping very easily.

You just got to know what to look for.

For Image Map in Dreamweaver.
Insert the image.

Than make sure you have Advanced open on the property tab, and you will see a bunch of boxes in the left corner (right under Map [input box]). There is a square, a circle and a wierd shape. Click each of those and you can experment until you are happy.

For layers. Insert -> Layout Object -> Layer. You can select the top square to move it wherever you want.

Enjoy!

This can be easily done with image mapping in Dreamweaver or if you are familiar with photoshop, when you slice your images you can do the same thing. IMO its easier to do in photoshop, but i'm just a visual kinda person.

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for your advice! I've managed to (after a heap of trials and errors) make the image map.

Thanks again!

You can also use Fireworks Studio to do your image maps.
