Hosting

Ok... I am looking for a little help/advice. I looking for somewhere to host my site. A friend of my has his site hosted at http://www.ace-host.net/ . These guys are cheap, which I guess is why I am hesitant. Has anyone out there heard tell of these guys? Or can anyone suggest a hosting site with good up time? This is really my biggest concern...the up time.

Thanks for your help!

Hosting

I actually use a free host, believe it or not, I think I found a good one. www.1and1.com the have a promotion right now that is free for 3 years.

I know what you are saying you get what you pay for, but I have been using for almost 6 months and had 0 problems. If I have questions there is usually an answer in my email within a few hours. I am not affiliated with them in any way just happy with there service.

BTW, they have a TON of free services and software downloads, Free google adwords voucher. easy interface. check it out.

i think it all depends on what you need and what you are planning to do.

i have a server at ev1servers.net. very great solution for hosting since you are bascially leasing out a server in a co-lo. we found this to be the best option for us as we grow, especially when running an e-commerce site.

If you plan on running an ecommerce site you should check their policies about ssl certs, b/c most places I had checked out said we would have to use theirs, so ppl would see the url change from my url, to the hosting provider then back. This proved to be their downfall, b/c in our research we saw that most people were hesitant in purchasing something if they are taken away from the main url, b/c they think its a scam. something to note.

so check it out. If its just informational, then those solutions are great.

Can also check www.eseehosting.com - they have no pop-ups or anything and from what I know are pretty reliable. They are also free, you don't have to pay any hosting fees.

I personally don't use them, but I have a couple friends and a couple clients who do and no problems yet. They're good for small simple content based sites. If you want any extras, you have to pay.

Is always good to remember that you get what you pay for. But not in all cases, I've seen some host company RIP off their clients with their ridiculous prices.

Can't go wrong with hosting several static sites on 1and1.com free host. Some say its slow but good enough.

Hey, I just wanted to post on this thread. I operate and co-own a web-hosting firm located in Connecticut. You can check out our website, http://www.dkahost.com . Our prices are very competitive and reasonable for what we offer. All plans have 24/7 email, online/live and phone support (not many do.) We also offer a money back guarantee on every plan, so if you aren’t satisfied, we will give you a full refund. There is no real risk envolved, and we guarantee 99.7% uptime, as well as a long list of features with your account that no other host on the Internet will even offer. You seem sort of uncertain with how much space and bandwidth you will need, so I suggest if you go with anyone, start out on a smaller plan as you can always work your way up. Let me know if you have any questions and if you PM me I can give you my office number and extension. You can also get it on our website.

As for the “free host idea,” I suggest staying away, just a personal preference. You know the saying, “nothing is free!” They usually have an iffy policy. 1&1 is probably one of the better free hosts but I still can’t say that I trust them. If you read their policies and TOS, they in a way lock you into t heir services once you sign up. But overall, they are good if you can’t afford a paid host. Take care.

try www.globat.com They have a nice plan for beginners. I think its really cheap for how much bandwidth they give you. Just check it out, nice support also.
