Ok, so i've had my site up and running for over a month now and I thorough using the tool at www.marketleap.com I can see how many backilinks i've managed to accumulate via the main search engines.

Apparently I have 487 with MSN Search, 40 with Yahoo BUT 0 with Google or Hot Bot.

and yet i'm top of the search engine results if you type in the name of my site and there are about another 160 links to my site. Why are my back links not being listed on google? The tool is defo correct because if I use the

link:www.themediaexperiment.com

option in the google search then it does indeed return no results and 487 for MSN.

Any ideas?

Google doesn't always give you the right number of backlinks through automated tools. I think it is because a lot of their ranking system has to do with backlinks. I wouldn't worry, if you have the backlinks, then Google has picked them up.

so how come the backlinks show up for other websites and not my own?

Google updates every few months so your links won't show up until they update.
