Apart from private ad sales, I have reviewed a few products with affiliate links which has been quite successful.

I have tried sponsored posting, but at the moment it isnt worth it as all they are offereing me is $6 per post.

I am trying to focus on content at the moment to build my profile before I try and monetize it too much.

I think for my blog, I won't be monetizing until an introductory, traffic building and promotional period.

That is a very good idea. I did the exact same thing and it works very well.

Hey richkid...i've follow ur blog since it first started not too long ago and thing ur new look is great... i was wondering where you got the illustration at the top corner of ur blog? is that an illustration of u that you had made or was it just a stock photo...

i've been looking for a good grpahics guy that can make illustrations like that...

Hi,
the character illustration is a picture of me, based off of a photo that I sent the artist. It did cost me a good amount of money but it wasnt as much as I was expecting. If you would like the artists contact details and hows much it actually cost, just send me a quick pm.

and yes, especially with my new 'free theme' my subscriber listing is coming along nicely.
