What is the best web script to write a forum in? And what is the best way to go about this? I notice this site is written in PHP...

A lot are written in PHP. It is easy, widely available, and heck... there are plenty of forums softwares already available, for free.

yea writing one in php would be your best bet i believe. but why reinvent the wheel? download some of the different fee forum softwares and customize them to your needs :-) vbulletin is probably the most widely used and known.

I would have to agree. PHP is much more cross-platform friendly and easy to deploy
