Exclamation The Definitive Guide: "Where do I find products to sell?

The Definitive Guide: "Where do I find products to sell?

First off, I love this forum. I would like to address an issue that I see everyday. I constantly see threads about people needing dropshippers and wholesalers. There is a very large market of people on the search engines such as Doba.com GetEStore.com or megagoods.com promising "Real wholesale prices" and claims such as "Unlimited Income Potential"

I'd like to break the myth and common misconception that these are your only sources for product. These people who advertise on the search engines are NOT real wholesalers! "Why do you think that?" you ask. Why would a REAL factory authorized wholesaler advertise on a search engine when they sell to large corporations like Wal-Mart, K Mart, ShopKo, Best but, Office Max and other large retailers? They do not want thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of small fish (Etailers, or YOU!) buying 100-400$ at a time. They want the big fish buying large quantities of 100,000$ or more.

Now, you say, well if REAL wholesalers won't work with me, how do I get product at real wholesale prices without paying membership fees??!? That is a common misconception that REAL Wholesalers will not work with you. There are THOUSANDS of them who will work with small business and Etailers! You just need to know where to look!

FACT: In 2010, 13% of retail sales will be online, the other 87% will be brick and mortar stores! Wholesalers are waking up to you, the internet retailer! In 2010, the online AUCTION marketplace alone will be worth $83 Billion, a number wholesalers cannot ignore!

I want to run through a checklist of things to look out for when looking for wholesalers.

1.) If they charge you and upfront or membership fees, they are NOT a real wholesaler.
2.) If they make claims of income potential they are NOT a real wholesaler.
3.) If they make claims of "16,000 Items Ready For You" or something of that nature, they are NOT a real wholesaler.
4.) If they do not ask for a Tax ID # they are NOT a real wholesaler.
5.) If they guarantee your success, they are NOT a real wholesaler.

You are dealing with a real wholesaler IF:

1.) You are required to fill out paperwork, such as credit authorization forms etc.
2.) They require a TAX ID # or Sellers Permit #
3.) They DO NOT charge a membership fee. (Be careful with this one)

I think you are beginning to see what I am getting at. The people who you see in the search engine promising products for you to sell at wholesale prices are really middlemen and scammers buying their product from the REAL wholesalers, and marking up their price, selling to you PLUS Additional fees.

You say: "But I don't want to get a TAX ID #, that sounds like work!"
Let me tell you, it really isn't. Many states have online applications for a Sellers permit (TAX ID) and will only cost you 10-20$ for 2 years.

This tax ID will be your key to real wholesalers. It took me about a month after I got my ID to build a relationship with a REAL Wholesaler, now My business currently works with 3 REAL wholesalers and dropshippers in less than 2 months! I now have access to tens of thousands of products at real wholesale prices.

"How did you find them if they don't advertise in the search engines then, smarty?"

I'll show you!

To throw something in, I wasn't even wasting my time reading the original post because the fact is that Doba.com is a dropshipper and note a wholesaler. Wholesale and Dropshipping are absolutely two different things and for that reason... Doba.com shouldn't be up there. They don't wholesale items out, they are a service that allows you to sell their items and make any difference in the seller's upmarking.

So just because they charge a membersihp fee doesn't mean they are false, once again, comparing your 1 negative comment about Doba.com (seeing how you listed it) is false compared to the hundreds that many other report positive feedback.

If you ask me, this post is more opinionated then factual information.

BTW... as Versas said, is there a reason why your promoting something that sounds so much like a commercial item... I'm beginning to think your formatting the same way a SPAMMER does... the post sounds like information by deflecting another company, but promoting your own or one that may be an "affiliation."

No sir. You need to go read some books and stay out of fantasy land. I work with dropshippers that charge no membership/annual fees. With doba or any "dropshipper" you find in the search engines, you will get marked up prices with fees.

You all can go work with your middlemen, but not me. I'm getting tens of thousands of products, with no membership fees. All I needed was a 20$ Sellers permit. Every wholesaler I work with is a dropshipper, and they accept credit cards and business checks.

Works for me. Get legal or get cheated. DO YOUR RESEARCH PLEASE.

I just want to stress that people should make informed decisions before jumping the gun. You will end up in a world of hurt if you don't know what you are getting into. You need to be educated on how business works, and the many bad people out the ready to capitalize on your mistakes, and are willing to do or say anything to get you to sign up with them.

I think a part of me just died inside. Boo-hoo for me, right? Wrong. I'm going to do things right. I'm going to be educated about what I'm getting into while countless others fall for the traps.

I'm always here if someone has questions, just ask. I'm pretty sure the people over at eBay Live and people like Chris Malta, Skip McGrath and Sydney Johnston would agree with most of what I've said here.

Just be subtle and minimal when you try to sell things to a community full of business owners who are use to seeing and spotting spam a mile away. We are sick of it and do not tolerate it.

Some times spam is unintentional, just over eagerness.

Something that most people don't know is that when you advertise yourself within a community like this, they will inherently not buy your product because of normal and healthy competition that all entrepreneurs should have even if your selling completely different things.

If you do want to decide to gain prospects in a forum like this is be subtle.

Don't push your service or product, post when the topic comes up or asked for.

Gain some respect.

Participate in discussions with valuable content.

Then the members here will want to buy form you with out you shoving it in their face.

That is the only way to effectively use a forum to your advantage.

Like I said before, It wasn't meant to be spam. I'll be writing a few things from time to time and be updating my threads accordingly. Maybe I can give some people here some good info. I've written a new guide today, as you probably seen.

Thanks.

EDIT: Not sure, but it also might be the psychological effects of large text and flashy colors I use to TRY to keep your attention (might be synonymous with spam) something you might not be used to here... I dunno' everyone is different.
