In your opinion what is some software, or information that either helped or was a must have for everyone to get started and running an online business?

I'm trying to put together a package for newbies who are looking to start going with an online business.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome and urged.

If you're looking at e-commerce, check out http://www.oscommerce.com. It's open-source, written in php with a mysql database and has tons of user-written mods. The forums are getting crowded though so support is a little hard to get. But once you get familiar with the code, then tailoring it to your needs is a snap. I've used this numerous times and written a lot of mods for it.

Oh, and since it is open-source, you can't beat the price...free. It's scalability is virtually limitless because it's open source and you can modify the core code.

I also use bbclone (http://bbclone.de/) for stats. It's pretty rudimentary but it gets the job done.

Well if they are in it alone, then I would suggest some type of image creation software, photoshop, illustrator, a spendy investment but way...WAY worth the money. I use it everyday from little things (banners) to working up a some drafts of a new design, making buttons, etc...

Of course this is for someone like me who loves to learn...
