ebay v.s. website

i am thinking of starting an online store but i am not sure if i should start my own website or just create an online store on ebay. ? opinions please

Here's the trick that worked for me. I would sell primarly from my site and then put items from the site on ebay as advertising. Along with a link to the site so they could buy from the site if they wanted to. I would actually charge more for ebay because many people feel more comfortable going through ebay as a trusted middle man. Sites are good cause they are faster, less fees, and you dont have to worry about feedback, but ebay is a great resource for connecting your products with customers. If you put something on ebay and people want it, then they find it, item sold, no problem, but on your site there is no garuntee whatsoever that people will ever even come across your product. Ebay is like the number 3 or 4 site on the web so not using it at all is silly.

You should use both. You could easily integrate your ebay auctions into your site as well. The extra traffic that you get from ebay is a nice bonus.
