Download Manager - annoying?

hi,

I would like to get a download manager for my site as there seems to be heavy downloads and I would like to take control of this - I would like to survey if you would like rather have a download link or a download link via an Email verification - as you know there are donwload bots out there that can download everything under your domain.

So I have created this poll please let us al know

thanks

If you are referring to someone buying something - usually a download link on the website so they get it right then and there. And usually that link is only active for a certain time.

If it is just a download link for something free - you might as well get a good email address from them so email it to them.

I agree with Corey. Just from personal experience, if I buy something downloadable, I get kind of annoyed with the whole in an e-mail link. Maybe it's just me, but I've had issues with that in the past.

However, if you're giving them something free, I agree that you might as well get something out of it! And you can follow up on trials, etc.

this is for just downloads - not purchases I have another server handling my purchases via paypal - as for direct downloads - don't you want to grow your list though? by collecting email addresses? they opt in to get the download and subscribing to your newslette/ezine/blog/ whatever - and they can unsubscribe later on?

but lets keep this poll goin!

You could get them to join your newsletter and every month you send them updates with free downloads that have been uploaded onto your site!

hmm ok now what about lets says multiple downloads - a bot can be downloading all the files from the site - would an email verification be handy for this or again a direct download? or have a script that hides the extension of the files? So far it looks like everyone likes direct downloads - hmm looks good
