Donate-a-Penny

Hey guys I have an idea for a charity website called donateapenny.com. It's a website that allows people to donate a penny to kid's in developing/3rd world countries. They visit the website and click on a button and the sponsors will pay for that penny. When they click the user will be taken to a few small ads, so everyone benefits.

I know a penny doesn't sound like a lot of money, but considering some people make 10 cents an hour in various countries, a penny can add up. 100 visitors = $1.00.

What method of donating are you going to use? Can you transfer as little as a penny on paypal?

I like the idea. I think you could get some real good sponsors. If this ever takes off please let me know. I would be interested in placing the site in my banner rotator.

If you knew anything about the non-profit industry, you would influence people to donate to the Red Cross or a similar well known charity. Start-up non-profit charities have huge administrative overhead, meaning in most cases, less than 5% of your donations actually go to charity. With an established non-profit, they typically receive 30-40% of your contribution.

Good idea, I hope it works for you...there are lots of generous people out there and I think your biggest obstacle will be convincing people that it is a non-profit program
