Domain name question.

Hi, is anyone familiar with the dropping process of domains? Once it reaches an expiration date, how long is the holding period? Also, say the domain name was registered at godaddy, is it best to place a backorder or to try and obtain it from Pool or eNom etc (if so which company is best from your experience).

I anticipate some wise cracks will tell me to go and post this at namepros or sitepoint but I'm hoping someone here can help.

All relevant input is greatly appreciated.

Well it would take a while to explain so i just got a link from snapnames to show the availablilty process after expiration/deleteion etc. http://www.snapnames.com/deleteprocess.html

Use snapnames everyone has told me on namepros they are the best one to use due to the fact they have a good % rate of geting the name for you but i would really check that out in more detail becuase i've never got a domain via this method

Once a domain isnt re-registered, it's deleted and held for about a week. Then there is about 25 days before its deleted and can be reregistered. If someone has backordered then it automatically goes into auction after the first week.

It doesnt matter who backorders, if it goes into auction the higest bidder wins.

Meanwhile whats usually pretty lame is the original owner can still at any time get the domain back until its "officially deleted"
Even though the user got email at 90 days, 60 days, 30 days, 1 week, 5 days, 1 day.. etc..

snap does have a better chance of grabbing the domain you want. i think its still 60 to back order at snap and hope you are the only one that likes that domain if not it goes to auction and then maythe best man wins. and ya there is a grace period where original owner can reclaim it for a cost 40$ or more i think if you really want you can backorder it a few diff places.
Is there a specific name you want orjust looking into buying domains?
