I have this posted as a reply to another post I had under general business, but I wanted some more feedback...

Has anyone had any success with digg and/or slashdot? If not, what would make it a better service?

Would you pay for a similar service? What would it have to offer to get you to pay for it?

Digg and Slashdot are HUGE generators of traffic, but only because they are free. People vote stories up... Journalism by democracy.

If they charged for it, the value would simply go away. Entirely.

Unless you are proposing to charge the USER for viewing such a site... Which is even less likely... There are virtually no sites that have successfully charged for text content.

The only reason digg and slashdot are poular is because it is free - and that is the underlying message.

No matter what extra features gets added, it is only popular because it is free and that is the main basis of it.
