YoungMoney,

Yeah, I think it looks fine. That being said, I think their are players in the same field that are WAY bigger than you are.

Mook Jon and Wickedfire

earnersforum
sitepoint to some extend
and some site called YE.com

A better question. Is it worth spending the $160 for vB forums or do the free ones work fine?

Forums are easy to setup and very hard to get going. My advice, find a about 10 key people who will post often. It takes a lot of good content to get people to want to join. Another tid bit, keep spam off of it.

Nice Forum. I would suggest to get it listed now at all the Forum Directories. We have a list of them at Forum Success. Yeah - forums are an uphill battle but Spyro said well - find, beg, bribe a few key players - to get you going.

Also make a long list of people who would have a vested interest in being an expert on your forum in their fields.

Again nice job - and I like money so I will probably join soon.

Cheers,

heres the link to the forum directory list.

Paid to post - never - you would only get really bad posts. But you can suggest posting trades withsomeone who is in the same boat - starting a new forum. You commit to post 10-50 posts and they do the same. If the forum is on another subject then you could each even promote your own forums softly.

My adivce is to get paid poster.

Bring in about 35 members 25 active poster and 500 -1000 posts.

Now you have a forum, if anyone drops by they will read a post.

Make one thing specific for the posters, tell them to post controversy.

That makes people want to join

It'll be a long uphill climb to take down the big players that already exhist. I'm afraid it'll take more than just a forum to attract repeat visitors nowadays. The time may have come and gone when a simple phpbb install created wildly popular sites.

Unless your forum is insanely popular, it's hard to monetize it. If you're looking for a good place to discuss money, try some of the other sites that exist and just become a regular poster there. Not only will you get your daily dose of money talk, but you'll also be able to get your blogs URL out there in each post you make - and your blog will make you more money than that forum will.

I know how hard it is to just be a "member" somewhere...and the urge to be the guy running the show (in this case, the forum) is sometimes overwhelming. But really give it some thought before you put your time and effort into something that's never really going to pay off big.
