Buying services online

My internet research has led me to this wonderful website where everyone seems interesting and downright friendly
When looking at all the options available online for services being offered (web design, hosting, programming etc.) I must say it's somewhat overwhelming. So how do you find the time to check out every provider and then make a decision based on cost alone? There is www.elance.com which I think may help quite a few people but I'm not sure about the way business is done (anonymously or what?). Does anyone have experience with this type of service?

You don't have time to check out every provider. Maybe do some of the following:

1. Support those who support things you believe in (i.e. Find someone local who gives back to the community, or if the price is right and the service seems good, let another young entrepreneur handle your needs)

2. Just doing the above step will filter out A LOT of options. Now you'll have a select few who you will feel good about supporting, which is important. NOW, what you should do is ask for some references and samples. See some of the work they've done in the past and if possible, contact some of their past/present clients and inquire about their experiences with that company.

3. Go with your gut - if you feel that they are flakey in any way, avoid them: it's just a preliminary sign of poor service and lagging response time.

If you have any other questions, feel free to E-mail me or send a PM!
