They are big in Europe and Asia. Not really here in the U.S. There are few here and there mostly gamers use them. Asia is making a shift from PC's to Mobile gadgets. Japan has been decreasing the need for PCs, Korea and Philippines are slowly transitioning as well.

In the UK and Europe yep, they are doing well, they basically do well where there are a lot of young budget travelers, i.e backpackers..
Although.. I think in about 5 years time we will see them start to decline as hostels start to provide free internet access as well as the costs of mobile wireless data comes down, and more web enabled gadgets.

I think it's better to open a cafe with hotspot(wireless internet) like starbucks do. It is great as today everyone carrying laptop/notebook. You can attract many mobile workers

I would have to agree with this comment, just dont see myself paying for internet access, especially having a laptop with wifi.

I use starbucks, panera bread, and even some bars that i know have wifi to use my notebook on the go. It would be unlikely for me to find a place that I had to pay to use the internet.

I was just in Japan and I saw them everywhere, which was strange to me because in Japan your cell phone does everything; internet, TV, you can buy groceries with it. They just seemed out of place to me in Japan, but they are everywhere, so they must be useful

I am not sure, but my friend and his wife both have them. It's pretty impressive. You can buy food out of vending machines, at the grocery stores, 7-11, etc..
Japanese phones are all G5 technology and can only be found and used in Japan. I am always in awe of Japanese electronics and everytime I visit the country I am amazed at what they doing, they are so advanced.
If you ever have the chance to go, I would suggest it. Amazing country and people.

It really depends where you are, i know in the Philippines they are used quite a lot and people who own them make decent money from them (pesos of course). In Australia there are a few around though i the people who use them are either traveling or hardcore gamers. I would say yes there is still money to be made as long as you attract these types of customers.
