Anyone use 1and1.com??

Am looking to register a few domains and host my vlog. 1and1.com seems to have the best deals by far, but I was wondering if I'm really getting what I pay for in cheap and crummy support.

Anyone have experience with it or other companies?

Go with godaddy, it's got fair deals and the cutomer support is actually not that bad. I knew a guy who had 1and1 and the server he was on sucked. But I'm sure every company has a bad server here and there.

They have helped me everytime I ran into trouble except once the guy was like "ugh... there isn't anything I can do... let me ask another guy." So he asks someone and the guy didn't know. So I was pretty upset and hung up and called back later and got a more inteligent individual.

Lol

i used to be on 1&1 until they packed the shared server with so many sites my visitors received intermittent errors. I called 1&1 to complain and was told that there's nothing they can do at the present as my site requires high database usage. A few days later, the site went down for over 24 hours! i called again and was told that the server needing replacing.... they sorted this within a day and everything worked beautifully......... for about a week! the new server was now packed full of sites and the dreaded errors were back....... they eventually blamed my script...... saying it was poorly written!!
no apology, no refund!!
i switched hosting to hostway.co.uk within a week and found not a single problem - three months later i've had zero errors, which proved the errors were not caused by the script!!
i'd avoid 1&1 for shared hosting - it's worth paying that little bit more for the extra quality and peace of mind.

Then you heard wrong.

1&1 is well known throughout the real domainers as a big no no. You should avoid these people there support is awful and thousands have had trouble with there hosting, domains and other services they provide.

I reccomend namecheap using the code EVENLOWER to save some cash

I have been using 1and1.com for around a year, with a root server. I have had no real problems with it. It has been fairly solid performance wise, and quite economical.

I find this to be a useful resource:

http://www.hostgatorreviews.com/sitemap

They have user reviews from all the major cheap hosting plans out there. As you can see, 1&1 is not viewed favourably.

GoDaddy is good for simple sites that won't get alot of traffic, and aren't looking for quick scalability. I use it to primarily to purchase domains and park them...

If you plan on getting lots of traffic or have a website that will make heavy database use, I would go with http://www.serverbeach.com
