Another Niche Social Website

Does anyone think there is a market for forum/community site that lets teenagers and young adults, learn and develop new interests? For example, interests in music they've never heard. Artists could post their music and people get exposed to underground artists in the genre of their choice..
Let me hear your comments!!!

That isn't much of a niche. If you pick one topic and stick with it then you may have something. A social networking site for future/wanna be politicians or something like that. I wouldn't try to do everything.

isnt that what myspace was designed to do?

your question about the niche site to introduce young people to music they have never heard of is precisely what myspace was created for.

Ya, but you have to go search through long lists of artists, if they don't find you first... Rather inefficient, if you have a specific sound or genre your looking for. ANyways, my whole idea was to let people post their own music, businesses, whatever they want essentially. All done in a uniquely designed website which will include a forum to promote a community feel where people can discuss some of the cool clothing companies or new hot artists that have posted up... It would in no way be competing with the likes of a facebook or myspace, but rather, a supplement!

There is always a way to build a better service, but ultimately is the marketing effort that may determine the fate of your venture.

If you have what it takes to market your concept, shoot for it.

www.Purevolume.com is exactly what you are thinking of. They have a very loyal user base.

In addition they are creating something called Virb www.virb.com that is to launch very soon. Will probably be an enhancement of the social networking aspect of purevolume.

Pure volume doesn't look like it has any hip hop... but thanks for the info. Virb looks like the idea I was thinking of..

dude. there's room for thousands of niche SNs.

Take the Fortune 1000 list. Many of those companies could significantly benefit in productivity by placing all of their management, employee, supplier, customer and distributor relationships into a social networking environment.

by breaking the relationships from the rigid corporate hierarchy, your customers will be more competitive because there will be more innovative ideas bubbling to the top from places which normally wouldn't communicate with the top execs.

do you have any idea how much Coka-Cola Ltd would pay you to set up and maintain the Coke social network?. And if they don't - Pepsi will. These companies will pay you 6 figures to set these things up, and they'll promote everything internally them selves. Compare this option to your standard adsense model.

It'll take you years for Google to pay out this much...if they ever will.
