Adding a forum to your site

If you want to add a forum to your site, say, something like the one we are using here on YE, do you have to set that up through your hosting service? Is there a script you can use? What about memory restraints, etc.

If there is allready a thread for this, just point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

I added a forum on my site from my web hosting company(solid hosting). The forum is called simple machines forum. Try to go to their website or transfer over to a hosting program that gives you the option of using a forum.

Just buy or download a forum package. Popular ones are vBulletin(the one this site uses), phpBB, Invision, and SMF. vBulletin and Invision Board cost money, the other two are free. Once you have it downloaded, just follow the instrutions given to you in the download. And the forum shouldn't use up too much of your hosting account's resources unless you have a lot of activity going on.

^yes Vbulletin.com is the best Forum Board out there... I am sure most will agree with me.

I have been installing,running,creating,modifying/installing "hacks"(hacks are modifications/cusomizations to the forum) etc... them for a long time now.

I can install one for you in no time at all.
you of course will need to purchase a Vbulletin License.

Please let me know if I can be of some assistance.
I can host your site and set you up with a Vbulletin Board.

thanks

Can you use your own graphics with vbulletin? Or do you have to use their little envilope system and clipboard graphics?

Use Mybb, its like vBulletin(the one this forum uses), except it is free. All you do is download the software off Mybb's site and upload it using an ftp to your host - you upload the upload files, there are install help as well.

Basically, MyBB is a clone of vBulletin - all you do is upload it to the location you want i.e www.example.com/forum and to install it all you go on www.example.com/forum/install - i think. There is a guide how to install it and you follow the instructions and you install it and there you go, your forum is made.
