??? about iframes

I have not used frames on any of my sites in quite a while. I heard somewhere that frames are not good to use due to the fact that it makes it more difficult for the search engines to index your site. Well recently I have wanted to change the way my forums look and work. I want to be able to ad some adds to the sides of them and some better and easier navigation. Well the easiest way to do this I guess is an iframe. I made a test index and it needs a lot of work but the iframe seems to work good. But my question is, is iframes the same thing as frames and will it make it harder for search engines to index my site?

I certainly do not want to mess things up for search engines. I have worked quite hard and have some very good key words coming up within the first 5 on Google and yahoo. Any help you could give would be wonderful.

Thank you in advance.

It depends on your Search Engine Optimization. In some situations, it can bring in much more traffic from search engines because the iframe itself is a seperate page. An iframe is almost like a seperate browser in your site, similar to frames. I've not heard much about the variations but I prefer normal sites, their easier to organise.

Hi Adam,

I use simplemachines.org for my forum setup and templates...
if you go to that site (no affiliation with them) and click on
customize (at the top) you can select a theme... and then if you
return to customize and click on modifications...

on the right hand side is a popular mods section... in there you
can add the ad management mod... which will let you add
advertisements to your forum without using iframes

(no one likes iframes... it will effect your rankings)

Thank you for the reply. I am going to toy around with it for now but not make it public. I guess one of the main reasons I am not sure about using it is because I want to make sure all the pages look pretty much the same and this might be a little hard. But then again "everything looking the same" was one of the reasons that I did want to do it too.

I am starting to really like most of my site. I know a lot of my site needs a lot of work, so I guess I should say that I really like the way it is starting to come together. The main thing that I want to change is the way the forums look.

But anyways, thanks again for the replie.
