t-shirt business: private or established label

I am looking to develop a children's apparel line and plan on beginning with t-shirts. The shirts would bear a screenprinted image bearing my unique design idea. I keep getting hung up on the labeling of the shirts. I would want them to bear my brand name on the label, but know that it would be much easier just to order some shirts wholesale with the "Hanes"-type label and get started. My fear is that if it doesn't bear my brand, stores won't stock it and it won't be taken seriously by more upscale boutiques. Any advice on whether to ditch the label issue and just start producing some to test the market? Any leads on how to get my own label on shirts? Thanks.

As far as tags go it is legal to cut blank brand tags out. There are a few legal issues though, when you add your own tag you need to provide the RN# from what shirt you are using.

I know a lot about the industry I also design and run a print shop so if you need more help feel free to get in touch.

I also know a lot of good baby clothing blank brands

I'm hesitant to do the cut out label thing. I worry that you'd be able to see that a label has been cut out or that there'd be damage to shirts...

Nope I do it all the time, there are also brands that make tear away or no label shirts that make the process way faster.

But trust me cutting labels is just a part of the industry, like I said contact me anytime because there are lots of things that you will have questions about and its what I do

You don't need to go to china. THe problem with China is you need to order so many pieces, it may not be worth it just starting out. You can have them made here for 50 cents. Wholesalers like TSC apparel will sew them in for 15 cents. You can also have them heat pressed on the garment. Just make sure you follow regulations when it comes to relabeling.

Also, in the meantime, go to t-shirtforums.com. It is one of the best apparel forums online.
