Smile Starting a website

Hi,

I'm thinking of starting a website for myself but does not wish to pay anything for it? Are there good recommendations for which websites to look at?

Does Geocities still exist for those who wish to create web sites for free?

depends on what the website is going to be for. If you are going to try to make money from it, then you will need to pay a few bucks a month. It will be extremely hard to have people take you seriously with a free site just because it will have other peoples advertising on it and it won't be your own domain name.

What do you intend to do with the site?

Yes, you can start with tripod.com

They allow you to have a free?? website, but really is it or anything actually free online? You pay for it one way.

If you intend to sell anything online, run away from things / resources that are free. No one will take you serious.

Free sites are only good to provide free info to people. That is all.

Domains are under $10 a year and you can get hosting plans for around $3 a month. Spend the money on it, it's worth it.

Google has a hosting service also (still in beta). You may want to try them out to get some experience, then move on to your own domain name and hosting.

Yes I agreee with Radreality that you must get your own domain name and hosting for your site if you want to make money. This is a basic requirement.

But if you just want to build a personal site, then those free web site is good enough.
