David - yours is probably the best introduction I've read on this forum in the past year. You have a fantastically uncommon attitude. I'll now get to the point and answer your questions.
What makes an entrepreneur
The making of an entrepreneur is when you see a person exercising the 4
entrepreneurial roles. It's similar to defining what is a painter. You know a person is a painter when you see them doing what painters do - prepare a car for painting, mixing paint, applying it to the car, and delivering the car to clients ect. Likewise, you know that you are an entrepreneur when you do what
investors,
founders,
ceos and
company directors do.
In other words, you know that you're an entrepreneur when you make board level decisions (director), and manage the risk equation of the company (ceo), you founded by aggregating resources outside of your control to solve a large problem experiences by homogeneous customers (founder), and you do this because you've identified your startup as a good investment opportunity for your self other investors (investor). That's what entrepreneurs are and what they do. They are people who create investment opportunities, and they do it so customers can increase their quality of life/ escape pain (consumers), or be more competitive (corporate).
What next?
If you want to be an entrepreneur - you need to engage your self in the first two roles of entrepreneurship: the role of an investor and a role as a founder.
Quite simply - you need to develop an
investment thesis and undertake
due diligence to identify a market opportunity which is a substitute without substitutes (i.e. it's better than other opportunities - and no opportunities are better than it).
Then, having identified an opportunity, you need to create an investment vehicle to commercialise this opportunity so you and other people can benefit. This means means being a founder and it means and involves a lot of things.

As a starter what books, videos, courses, websites or tools do you guys recommend me to start with or how should I begin.
