My business idea

My partner and I are going to open an online art gallery, where unnamed artist and other galleries will be able to sell there art and other artist art. Profit will come from a consignment fee! 60% to artist and 40% to the online gallery. Membership will be free! So if u know any collectors or art gallery that would like to join PM me. I would also like to here some views on the idea it self. thank you

I like the idea, but there are sites like that allready. The profit in art galleries is always in the consignment fee.

look..I work with artists..so I feel for what you're trying to do here

you must state the problem you're trying to solve. you can just say "I'm trying to help artists sell their stuff". you must explain why artists have trouble selling stuff in the first place and why other solutions are not solving the problem.

what problem are you trying to solve?

40% sounds steep to me. But I don't know the industry.

If your competitors are charging 40% for consignment then I would do the opposite. Charge your customers a flat fee to post till they sell. You will eventually attract the good artists and build a name for yourself. If I was a good artist and have sold many, I would go for the flat fee or 1%(something small) of asking price. It saves me money. I think you will gain more confident artists rather than the starving ones. Just something for you to consider.
