Fashion Designer Looking for Business Partner for Fashion Start Up

Hello,

I am a womenswear designer based in NYC and have been designing for several years now. I am interested in forming a fashion start up for a women's designer market ready to wear line. I would like to collaborate with someone who has knowledge of the business side of fashion that can create a viable business plan, seek out investors and manage the financial side of the company once we obtain funding. It would be very helpful to have familiarity of the contemporary design aesthetic. Thank you.

Really tough market. How much experience do you have within the fashion world? It sounds like what you are wanting is a majority stake investor. I don't think you'll find anyone willing to put up the cash and run the full business side of anything without owning a majority of the company. My suggestion would be, make some money first and get it moving forward. Then start looking for the partners/investors or you will get eaten out of your majority stake before someone puts their first dress on.

Thanks very much Nick for your reply, it's very helpful. The partner I am in search of for this venture would not necessarily be someone with his or her own money to invest in the startup (although that would be nice, it's probably not a very realistic goal), but would be someone with whom I can collaborate on seeking out investors from a third party. The partnership would then be split equally. Therefore I'm wondering how I can connect with someone who comes from that world as all my dealings are with people on the creative and production side of the industry.

I do have experience in design and may have yet another co-designer/design director with many years of design experience and who had his own line in the past but we are really in search for the missing piece of the puzzle.
