I have an idea for a website. It is just an idea. I'm looking for a partner/investor to develop it and market, etc. to form a partnership and create revenue from advertisements. So here's the idea:
This website’s purpose is to provide customers with a single, secure location to record and track their office lottery pool contributions, in the event of a jackpot prize for a fair distribution of winnings among the pool members.
Many office workers join a pool and typically one person is in charge of the pool with collecting cash, scanning ticket copies, updating contributions, and projecting potential winnings on an Excel spreadsheet that can be distributed through email. The problem is, everyone might not trust everyone entirely and may hesitate to trust a single person. What if one person cheats or lies? What if multiple people cheat, leaving certain members out of a jackpot prize?
This website will provide a secure location to store records of member contributions to a lottery pool, where one single member or several members cannot sabotage the group. This provides a “public” record of contributions and provides “documentation” of what should be a fair split of winnings. Each member is able to hold all other members accountable by verifying correct information input in the group profile/pool summary. This provides a checks-and-balances system that ensures no single member or members can abuse their pool.
The timing of providing a site like this coincides with an increase in lottery ticket sales. As the recession has obviously impacted everyone’s lives, more and more people cannot help but dream of just winning a lottery and not having to worry about money anymore. Of course the reality of winning a lottery and being carefree is questionable, but the increased sales of lottery tickets is very real. The dream and desire of people wanting to win a lottery jackpot is very real. This desire has, in some cases, grown into desperation as the now unemployed face harder times.
The demographic this site targets is working professionals who work in an office and interact with 3-10 other coworkers on a daily basis. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are approximately 150 million people in the labor force. If we approximate numbers to subtract workers such as farmers, field laborers, etc. we have a high number of workers that sit at a desk in an office. Many of these workers join office lottery pools and purchase tickets together in the hope of sharing the winnings. Typically these pools start very casually just from simple camaraderie and carry on just to pass the days; all members holding on to the dream of winning money.
To my knowledge there aren’t any sites that offer this type of service. As no sites like this exist, being the first in the market has its advantages. Although many similar sites develop subsequent to a popular site, the first is always the most well known and usually most successful.
This site would offer a place for registration for future log-ins and a profile of each member’s history and affiliations. For example, if an office worker decides to join a pool with 4 other coworkers, each member would register with the site and form a group name. One member could be the administrator of the group and enter the contributions and upload copied images of the tickets. All other members would then have to confirm the information for it to be posted on the group profile page and be “published.” The additional functions of the site would provide a mathematical breakdown of the distribution of prize money, should one of the pool’s tickets have the winning combination. Some pools are continuous, while some pools are individual drawings. i.e. some office pools keep records over long periods of time to determine what each member contributed, as opposed to some pools simply playing for distribution of the next drawing, and then start over each time there is a new drawing/jackpot. The website would provide a function to select either option. Other options would be to choose which state lottery the pool is participating in, to an automatically updating jackpot summary to display potential winnings, distributions, etc.
That's it in a nutshell. The idea behind it is to create revenue from advertising. Please let me know if you have more questions. PM me if you're interested. Thanks.
