Looking for Small Investment for College-Startup

    Hi,

I'm am currently looking for a small investment of $5,000 to get my business started. A little background on myself. I am a 19 year old student at Penn State majoring in Information Sciences and Technology with a minor in entrepreneurship. I have always had a passion for business and have started several, some successful, beginning at age 15.

Now for some background on the business, Dizzy Bats. Inspired by my friends who have enjoyed playing this drinking game for years the idea came to me several months ago. In the traditional game of dizzy bat, the participant chugs a full beer out of the open end of a bat. While they are chugging, everyone around them counts. Next, the participant must crouch down, placing their forehead on the bat and spin one time for every second it took them to chug the contents of the bat. They must then proceed to hit a crushed beer can which someone pitches to them. A normal dizzy bat experience includes plenty of face planting, falling in mulch, taking out lawn furniture and/or tiki torches and endangering surrounding spectators. Once more experienced, the participant may engage in many dizzy bats in a single evening without face planting at all. Currently, players simply cut the end off of a wiffle ball bat. There is no bat made specifically for this game. This is where Dizzy Bats will fill the market.

By producing bats that are competitively price to the traditional wiffle bat, students will undoubtedly choose our bat, The Louisville Chugger. I have already received estimates from manufacturers and it is very possible to sell the product at the same price as wiffle bats and still make a profit. I plan on pitching the product to stores in college town across the nation. Dizzy Bats are perfect for tailgates, parties, or just hanging out.

My business plan is nearing completion and it can be distributed when finished upon request. Please check out Dizzy Bats | Home of the Louisville Chugger for more information (temporary design) Please post here, send me a pm, or drop me an email for more information.

    Thanks,
    Chase

Hey, although I don't have the capital to invest I thought I might give a pointer. From what I saw your market is very small. If I were you I would talk to your manufacture about different types of products for drinking games. Some ideas would be beer-pong kits, beer bongs, etc. This way you could build followers and your Dizzy Bat would be spread throughout the country.

    Thanks for the reply!

While the market might not be as big as the market for beer bongs, there is still a rather large market. Across the country, tailgaters at concert, football games, or any other sporting events enjoy playing dizzy bat. The only problem? There is no product designed especially for dizzy bat. The must cut the end off of a wiffle bat. Dizzy bat is also extremely popular at parties.

The main reason why I am not starting out offering all of those products is due to funding. I want to start small (my initial order will be for around 5,000 bats) and grow from there.

Have you priced in packaging for the bats? How will they be packed/presented in stores? Will the brand name be printed/stamped in the side of the bat?

Yeah I've taken care of that. As far as packaging, they will be individually wrapped in a plastic bag with a cardboard tag on top. The brand name with be molded into the bat.

Good idea man, I'm also a college student and I see the market this product may have. One tip I can give you is to build a network with other college towns, especially rival colleges close to you. Try to acquire contacts in other colleges in order to help you reach a higher target of customers, if this hits, you will probably see some tough competition real soon, so you have to be ready for it, since they might find a cheaper manufacturing deal and they may offer a lower price. Be very ready for this. Also try to diversify into other products that are also college party items or tailgate items, and I would suggest you to do this not at the beginning of your project but once it gains ground. Another thing that may help is getting some booths at campus events where you can promote your products and hiring hot girls to work in them. You may even offer them a comission off the sale of them, and guys will buy them from hot chicks... this is just my opinion but hope it helps... good luck on your project man...
