I am 29 year old stay-at-home mom, who quit my executive marketing job about a year ago. I wanted to stay home with my son and with the current state of the economy, I have decided that rather than going back to corporate America, I would like to open my own business. I have 10+ years of marketing and adverstising experience and I have decided that I would like to open a children's resale shop in my town. I have the ideal location, the merchandise, and the know-how to run a business, but I am lacking to find the rest of the funds needed for my startup. At present, I need roughly another 10k to get started and I wanted to know what the best resources are to find grants and/or Angel investors who can help me get started. I want to empower other stay-at-home mom's and give them a legitimate opportunity to work part time and/or have a resource where they can purchase reasonbly priced children's apparel and accessories, as well as somewhere they can trade their gently used children's clothing for the next size, if they cannot afford to buy new clothing. So many people are hurting these days and I genuinely want to reach out and help the surrounding communities. My business is different in that, I'm going to offer (3) different opportunities for parents to help out both theirs and other children. (1) They can donate their child's gently worn and used items and receive a tax deductilbe for the highest amount allowed. (2) They can receive store credit for their donations at amount higher than cash value, which can be used to obtain new items for their children or (3) They can receive cash for their items at a lesser amount than trade. Additionally, I plan to offer a preferred shoppers program, whereby parents can get a discount every time they shop with us. I also plan to launch a website dedicated to pre-owned children's boutique items. My biggest competition in the area is Once-Upon-a-Child, however the closest location to me is over 5 miles away. They also tend to have much higher price points for the items that I can sell for less, due to the large amount of donations that I have already received and will continue to receive as well. If there is an angel out there who can assist with my cause, I would be forever grateful and so would the hundreds of thousands of struggling families out there.
