Tax preparation industry keeps on growing even in this down economy and will keep increasing every year. Big franchises like Liberty tax open up new offices every year just to accommodate increasing demand.
I come from an accounting background and happen to be CTEC Registered Tax Preparer. Though I don't have much experience in preparing taxes, I have industry knowledge and the tools needed to start and run a small Tax Preparation firm. I am looking for someone to be my 50% partner and to start this new venture in mid January.
My plans include providing tax consulting services to small business that can't afford a CPA for year round tax advice. With start up costs as low as $5000, it is very much possible to run a tax prep/consulting firm all year round and provide services like bookkeeping/payroll on the side.
I live in Northern California, primarily the East Bay but it doesn't really matter if you happen to be anywhere in the Bay Area. Please keep in mind; I am not proposing buying a franchise etc because profits drop dramatically when you are with a franchise. My plan involves getting a retail store front in a busy mall or street, using intuit software for tax prep and doing marketing to local business.
Get in touch with me if you think you have that entrepreneurial spirit to get things going for you in the next year.
