Investor/Business Partner Needed To Fund Established, Revenue-Generating Website/Blog

    Updated 8/3/2009
I've exhausted myself trying to search for some start-up capital to fund the purchase of an established, revenue-generating website. I have no savings, my credit sucks, my friends are poor (that's a little harsh, but you get what I mean), and I pretty much don't know where else to turn to find a good business partner and/or investor.

For the past 10 months or so, I've been researching the Sitepoint.com Marketplace - Now Flippa.com - to find out if it could be a profitable venture for me to purchase a good revenue-generating website. I've found multiple websites over that time period that I know for a fact I could increase revenues and readership with no problem at all using the skills I've acquired as a blog owner, graphic designer, full-time freelance writer, and with my knowledge of SEO and web marketing. So now I'm out searching for a little bit of seed money to help finance the purchase of one of these potential gold mines. The investment opportunity is superior to others (i.e., stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc-), because I can offer a 55% ROI within just 3 years - Under my plan, I can take an investment of $20,000 and turn it into approximately $36,000 within a 3-year span - The investor would realize a profit of $16,000 and counting...(disclaimer alert: this is a typical example, but your exact results may be better or worse than the above figures.) Additionally, risk is relatively minimal when compared to other investments, because I'm purchasing an already established business that has a solid foundation. From that point, I use what I know about website development to increase traffic/revenue in order to make the investor and myself greater profits. Read this entire thread to find out more details about what I'm proposing.

    My Experience
I'm not going to disclose my whole resume here, but I'm a writer by trade, I'm educated as a graphic designer, and I'm experienced with both SEO and marketing for the web - basically all the tools you need to run a successful website. I have written for some of the top tech websites on the Web, and I currently work full-time as a creative writer (Huddle.net), copywriter (Content26.com), tech writer (Developer Shed Network), and a blogger (http://promotehealth.info). Since November, 2008, much of my time has been spent developing two blogs from scratch, mainly to help develop my skills as a website developer. Both blogs have been successful thus far - Both are PR4 blogs and traffic continues to grow month after month.

I'm only looking at purchasing the type of website that I know I can run successfully and that I fully understand the front-end and back-end - namely a Wordpress-based blog, although I'm open to others as well. I'm not looking at ecommerce sites - I don't want to have any inventory of products, etc... I'm focusing my search mainly on blogs, authority niche websites, and dropshipping websites that carry no inventory. Because of my graphic design/writing experience, there is no cost for any future web design or for new content on the site - I will provide all of that. I'd also be able to handle much of the programming tasks myself, so very little work would need to be outsourced.

I plan on working full-time to develop whatever website(s) that I (and the investor) choose to purchase. This is why I can say with confidence that this would be a pretty safe investment for anyone - plus the website will already have an established revenue stream, so that further minimizes risk on the investor's part. I would be counting on the website to provide a full-time income (or close to it) for myself and my family, so that I can spend 100% of time working on the site. I'm open to a wide-range of financing options, including: loans, partnerships, grants, revenue-sharing, etc...All of that info can be discussed in further detail if you're interested in working with me in this venture.

I'm extremely motivated, experienced, very web savvy, and easy to work with. Hopefully somebody out there appreciates these traits and decides to invest in my idea. Please feel free to PM me, or send me a shout via Yahoo IM or GoogleTalk: 'eitelj99'.

I look forward to any responses

    Thanks,
    Joe Eitel

joe, welcome, i've heard this before...

to put bluntly it, you may be motivated, but you're lacking skill
in america, startup fiance isn't raised from savings, banks or friends
it's raised from customers, and if you're monetising your venture with ppc ads and have no capacity to book pre sales for the purpose of raising seed finance, all that means is that you've selected the wrong business opportunity (i.e. one that doesn't match your risk profile). why? refere to the beginning of the paragraph.

to correct the problem, pick a different opportunity, one which you can finance using customer prepayments.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not looking at purchasing a website that can be financed using customer prepayments, and to be honest I've never heard of financing a website that way. I'm a writer by trade, and educated as a graphic/web designer, so I'm looking for a content website which will take advantage of my skills in both areas. In order to do this, I need to find an adequate amount of funding to purchase a site that is already established and already generating revenue (amongst other factors).

I don't think that I'm going about this the wrong way. It's simple business - it takes money to make money.

Please explain your method of financing a bit more, so that I can understand it better.

    Thanks!

I wouldn't say he is lacking any skill, anyone has what it takes to be successful. On another note, everyone's success story is different it doesnt matter how you raise capital. In his situation he needs capital in order to have customers generate capital.

    Exclamation I Should Also Add...

Let me clear something up that I may not have made clear in my initial post. I'm not at all looking for handouts here. I'm looking for partners who have the means to obtain financing - I intend to pay half of any loan payments from any loans, borrowed money, or personal savings used in the purchase of a website. I would use the purchased website's revenues to pay back any money that has been lent out to me by any partner/investor, and this can be further backed up by my freelance writing income.

Just wanted to make a point that I'm serious about this, and I'm not trying to scam anyone out of money. I'm ready to start developing a solid portfolio of revenue-generating websites, and I hope that there's other people out there who are ready to work with me in this venture. I've already had a couple of interested people who see my vision, so thanks to you guys

    Have a good one,

    Joe

It would e great if you could demonstrate some level of experience such as some sites you've generated income as an affiliate of something. Russell Bronson is showing a lot of internet marketers how he went from 0 to millions. Check it out. Get in on his marketing class while it's free. You'll gain massive experience and credibility. Russell may be one of your references. But hey, what do I know...Jordan has already said to contact him...

    Update

It's been a while since I posted anything here at the forum, and I wanted to post an update about what's been going on in my quest for purchasing and developing a top-notch website so I can quit my day job as a freelance writer. A couple of possible investors got in touch with me, and we began searching for the perfect website to buy, but after a couple of months of searching, nothing really jumped out at us. So the search has slowed down lately, and I decided to start my own blogs in the meantime to help build my experience in web design, SEO, marketing and monetization.

Back in December, I took an old domain that I had just sitting around collecting dust, and I transferred it over to WordPress and starting creating some posts. Within 4 months I had a PR4 and Alexa in the 325,000 range - not bad for a "beginner"! The blog is promotehealth(dot)info. The site isn't monetized very well - using Google Adsense - but traffic is decent and my backlinking strategy worked like clockwork to get me a PR4 very quickly in a niche that highly competitive - Health.

I decided to try out my website development process again with a brand new domain to see what kind of success I could obtain that way. I did some extensive keyword(s) research to try and find a good niche that would do well with Google Adsense as its main revenue source. I chose to focus on the keyword phrase "consolidating student loans", and I purchased the domain Consolidatingstudentloansonline(dot)com - long name, I know!...but the keyword phrase is in the domain, so that's a big plus.

I found a free WP template to use (which I know hate and will be changing soon), and I began creating content and building backlinks to the blog. Long story short, I brought this brand new blog from nothing to a PR4 within 3 months! I was ecstatic with that accomplishment, and the fact that as of this writing I'm ranked #8 on Google's front page for my main keyword phrase. I'm also on the front page of Bing as well. This only took about 4 months of work on my part, and it has been a great learning experience in the process. It's got me more motivated, and confident, than ever knowing that I have the tools to succeed in the website development world.

In the coming weeks and months, I plan to reignite my search for a website - or websites - to purchase and develop using my tried-and-true methods of building backlinks, producing quality content, and using SEO strategies. Now that I know my strategies can be successful - after 8 months of experimentation - it takes a lot of the anxiety out of the website purchasing process! If you're interested in hopping on-board, please email me and lets get started

Still not sure how your site will generate income for the partners. Sounds like you are now applying your enthusiasm from the ground up.

You may also want to include how much you need for this proposed website. There are affordable websites generating income for a small fee.

You may want to start small and reinvest your profits into other new domains. Patience and persistance wins.

    Good luck.

[Edit] didn't realize that post was so old!

I've added you in Yahoo too. If you stumble into a mutli-millionaire, can you show him my direction too? *sigh*

The only way you can truly fail, my friend, is to stop trying.

But do some RESEARCH BEFORE your try! It helps.

@Tiger: I'm looking to raise a substantial amount of funding in order to begin adding to my portfolio of websites (currently have 2; just started developing 1 more; none are really making any real money yet). There have been a couple of websites that I've been interested in purchasing within the past 2 weeks. One of them was in the $60,000 range - was making $5,000 net revenue/month - and the other is in the $160,000 range - is making about $10,000/month in net revenues. Those are the types of sites that I'm looking at right now.

@Axeman: Sorry I missed your IM. You sound as motivated as me, so that's a good start! I'm definitely looking for partners in the longrun, but more importantly, I'm looking for start-up capital (as we all are!!). You can try getting in touch with me via email, IM, PM.

    Hello Joe,
I too frequent sitepoint/flippa and digitalpoint. There are 100's of people capable of running websites that would like the funds to buy these larger sites. I see where your coming from looks easy right. You see all the screen shots of traffic and revenue.
The thing is you can create these blogs(like your doing now) yourself since your a freelance writer. Blogs don't make more than a few hundred dollars a month at best. Mainly from using the PR(page rank) to sell blog posts and blog roll links. Sounds like you want to make your money from Google Adsense ad's.
You would be better off creating blogs(getting backlinks,PR) then flipping them for a profit. Then work your way up to the larger site's. As you said yourself you have gained valuable knowledge starting small.

If you want my idea about creating one of these huge sites that I'm not going to use no time soon let me know. You'll need about $1000 to make it happen. It will make around $800-$1000 a month after 4-6 months. Then sell it for $7000-$12000 depending on revenue and traffic.

You have the same passion about making passive income online as I do. Just take your time and continue working hard it will come.

    Good Luck
