careful with that.. the trucking business is a dead end business.. one good year, one bad year.. and ur lucky to break even.. my father in law is in that situation right now.. but it also depends on what you are doing.. he was transporting stone and stuff.

The good news is that prices are depressed, and you should be able to pick up an asset for a good price.

When you sit down with a capital provider, either your bank or a leasing company, make sure you have a well thought-out business plan; i.e. how you are going to make enough money to earn a living and pay back the loan or lease.

If the traditional sources of capital are not available, then think about raising private money from friends and family that believe in your ability to make your business a success. You could set up a partnership or an LLC and pay out an 8% dividend, plus a piece of the profits. Their downside protection is an ownership in the truck whereby if the business fails and you sell your equipment, your investors get their money back first.

    Good luck,

    CNG Trucker

Good Luck with your trucking venture.

Here's a couple ideas to help you get the money you seek.

The SBA has new programs under the "stimulus bill" that makes it easier for business start-ups. Be prepared to develop a small business plan and you may want to consider working with your local SBA SCORE group. They can be a valuable asset.

Another twist, you may want to consider: Buy a Natural Gas Truck or buy and old diesel and have it converted to CNG. Then Market yourself as an environmental trucker. There are lots of grants in the new Government plan for environmental business.

    Good Luck.

    Look for private funding

You will find that private funding or owner financing is another option. Maybe start out slow and try to rent or lease. Let me know if you need more information and I can try to assist you.
