It has to do with providing an outlet for people in developing countries, especially those confined to tribal areas, to sell their traditional handicraft to the world through e-commerce site. It will allow them to compete on a global scale. The sale of these products will give them and their families a reasonable income, helping them to not only survive but also to maintain a sustainable livelihood. The project will also helps preserve their culture by utilizing these traditional crafts. I grew up in pakistan so I am looking to invest in that region since I am familiar with the terrain and the people. I have someone there who is willing to be my workhorse. I am looking for people with IT background, finance and business development. Tell me about your background.

a few issues i came into in something like this:

    1. Getting the payment to the service providers all over the world

    2. cost effective shipping from these locations to the customers

    3. Customer service and after sale service by the producers or service providers

    saad07,
It might be profitable if to sell something at high price..something exclusive... definitely not cheap souvenirs.
do you have ideas what exactly you are going to sell?
did you do any marketing research? who and at what price is ready to buy it?

I am working on the proposal/business plan which should be ready by end of the month. I'll have more details for you then...I am going to address all those questions. We may have to go through an exporter who can help us ship, not sure if we should build an inventory. I am also thinking along the same lines as you....selling high end items for home decoration, etc. Manufacturing is dirt cheap in those countries so even with shipping cost, we can turn a significant profit. I'll do market research for Caribbean. Do you know people in that area?

PS: I am currently living in Canada. Where are you located?
