I'm from Englewood, NJ. Ten minutes from the GWB. I travel back and forth between NYC and Jersey so if you know ppl in either state who are entrepreneurial, I could talk with them about my idea as well!!

Vonage has spent endless amounts on advertising and the jury is still out on VOIP.

You're correct ; Vonage has spent endless amounts on advertising, But I wouldn't say the jury is out on the VOIP industry. Optimum Voice, Comcast...that's all VOIP too and they have tons of satisfied customers.

Vonage fails to win because they have a horrible marketing strategy. Commercials no longer have the effectiveness that they used to, yet they dump billions into this tactic. I've already studied the big boys...me and my partners know how to win!!

Question is...whose with us?

I'd second that, likewise, I don't think it's neither prudent to dismiss Vonage nor fail to quantitatively comment on whether Comcast's voip products are profitable.

In Australia, we've got at least 20 startup voip vendors but they are in no way winning any consumer market share from traditional telcos. Engin hasn't been able to lift it's revenues, where as
Macquarie telecom
, on another hand, sell to corporate customers have been unable to get profitable.

I challange anybody to show me a runaway VOIP startup sucess story.

From what I observe, voip is an extraordinary tough place to make any money for startup companies.

Then again, Occam Networks in Santa Barbara ranked first in 2006 Deloitte Fast 500. Their revenues grew 48,948% between 2001-06, but they're not a voip vendor per say...but a supplier to voip vendors.

Akula, you make great points!

We should be celebrating the fact that there are no runaway VOIP success stories! If there were tons of success stories then there would be no oppurtunity!

Because no one, not even Vonage or Comcast has made a real dent in the industry, the industry is fresh like wet cement. The field is anyone's to play....and leave their mark.

Entrepreneurship is about vision; Seeing something before everyone else. Those are the people I'm looking to work with!

hehe

That's a great attitude

I used to think like that untill I found out that entrepreneurship is about making money

I miss the old days

Call me crazy, but it seems the best indicator of being able to make a dollar is evidence of a sucessful competitor

anyway...I've seen enough sucess stories to be absolutely convinced of my own inability to diffrentiate as to what is and what is not a good business opportunity

good luck :-)
