Lightbulb Pirates Treasure Hunt Myrtle Beach SC

ARRGGG Maties!

I am looking for capital investment in the amount of at least 50K to start up a Pirate Treasure Hunt Family Adventure here in the Myrtle Beach - Grand Strand area of South Carolina where I live. I am looking to capitalize on the 13 million plus visitors that come to the Myrtle Beach area each year. Aside from the fact of Myrtle Beach is one of the Golf capitals of the world, with over 100+ golf courses in the area, it is becoming and has become a strong entertainment industry over the past several years, with industry giants such as Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, Calvin Gilmore's Carolina Opry, Gatlin Brothers Medieval Times, Alabama Theater and this years entry, opening in May 2008, the 140 acre Hard Rock Theme Park.

In light of this tremendous growth, NOW is the time to throw my hat into the ring and capitalize on this increasing entertainment frenzy with "Pirates Treasure Hunt Family Adventure". Following on the foot steps of the successful presentation of Ripley's Aquarium "Pirates - Predators of the Sea" exhibit located at Broadway at the Beach this past year, 2007, and the tremendous success of the Disney movies, Pirates of the Caribbean, I am looking to keep the flame of pirate legend alive in Myrtle Beach. Currently, there is nothing like what I am proposing to do in the Grand Strand area.

Here's the setting:

A family would purchase tickets for a "Pirates Treasure Hunt Adventure" and come to a location prepared like a pirate ship/island to begin the adventure. There would be a short dramatic pirate presentation to set the stage and mood for the treasure hunt. The families randomly would then choose (possible through some type of family competition) one of several possible treasure scavenger hunts. They would begin their quest by solving riddles and clues, deciphering codes, piecing together sections of a treasure map, and interacting with various pirate actors, all scattered up and down a 10 mile stretch of North Myrtle Beach. During this time they would stop at various landmarks and business establishments along the way, discovering the various clues hidden at each location, piecing together the map that leads them to a hidden treasure chest key of Dread Pirate Jack Flint. Upon discovery of the key, they would proceed back to the "Pirates Cove" (their starting location) and take the key to see which one of 3 to 5 treasure chests it unlocks. Each treasure chest will contain varying degrees of prizes, from simple area coupons and discounts, to high $$ grand prizes such as : home entertainment systems, vacation packages and possibly a brand new automobile! Either way, every family walks away with some "treasure" and they definitely walk away with a memorable family fun experience!

Details:

Now the starting location will be designed and decorated, inside and out, in pirate motif. I am also looking to establish at this location a small retail store filled with everything pirate related.

The other area that this venture has going for it is that the Myrtle Beach, SC area is rich in pirate legend, as many famous pirates, like Blackbeard, traveled the coast from Charleston, SC up to Wilmington, NC .

I currently have a website established for this project (part of it is still under construction) and it can be found here: PiratesTreasureHunt dot com (that picture on the home page is me in full pirate gear). I have also done local children's birthday parties, custom designing a treasure scavenger hunt for them with much success and enthusiasm from the children and parents/adults.

I have also contacted many local businesses with a favorable response about the idea and concept, along with verbal confirmation of willingness to participate in this project (in the way of being a clue location as well as donating prizes for the treasure in exchange for free advertising).

What I need most urgently then, is the capital investment to launch this venture and this needs to happen quickly in order to take advantage of this summers (2008) visitor traffic (which means this project would need to be ready to go public by mid-May 2008).

Funding will be used for:
  • Securing a location
  • Remodeling & Pirate Props
  • Retail Store setup
  • Marketing and Advertising
  • Initial hiring of employees and actors
  • Misc legal & business needs

I currently own and operate my company Positive Media Group LLC (a 10 year old business) which encompasses: computer services, web design, web hosting, Search Engine Optimization, and internet marketing services.

With this venture, I am stepping out of the boat (no pun intended) as a results of my local mentor teaching me as well as watching "The Big Idea" with Donny Deutsch and seeing many successful entrepreneurs following their passion and succeeding. So, I am pursuing one of my passions, as I have always loved doing and creating treasure scavenger hunts ever since I was a child as well as learning of pirate legend, and pursuing your passion is one of the keys to success. The other driving factor is the overwhelming and favorable response that I receive from everyone that I share the idea with, everyone from family and friends, to potential customers and local business owners - which is another indication that I am on to something good.

If you are then interested to help in any way, let's go for it and unlock the potential treasure chest that awaits....me harties....ARGGG!!!

Question Does anyone have any input on this project?

I know that I have had only 31 views at the time of this posting, but I was curious if anyone had any thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc about this idea? Just wondering....

Similar Idea, but really like yours

Hi:
I am posting in regard to your Pirates Treasure Hunt. Have you raised enough capital yet? Possibly, you could have an "Ultimate Treasure Hunt" were tourists can invest $20 or $100 to find the buried treasure if you could get at least 20,000 people to do this you could raise $400,000. Keep half for the business and give $200,000 to the main winner, or $100,000 to the winner and $100,000 to the City so they get "their" cut and they would help advertise this. I didn't try it because it required to much thought process on how to put something like this together. But, I know people would go for it.
Just a thought. I really like your idea.
Thanks,
Lynn

One more thing...

Since you mentioned North Myrtle Beach, have you ever tried contacting the owner of Ghosts and Legends at Barefoot Landing. Maybe, they would be interested, since they all like Pirates also.
Thanks!
Lynn Good Luck.
