So is this going to be just another drop ship style of business? If so, beware that the makers of these items may not want to deal with you unless you purchase large qunatities of product. Do you have the capital for this?

Do you have a business plan? What brands will you sell, who are you going to market too? ( do you know the demographic? ) .. send me a PM, im interested.

I agree with this point. If you've got these factors sorted I'll offer my technical/online marketing expertise.

I am not trying to start a retail company I am creating a custom apparel company that I plan to run with permanatly. The demographic that I am trying to target is Men between the ages of 16-35. Possibly later Women also. The clothing that I am designing is elegant, and fashionable think of Lacoste, Armani, and Ralph Lauren. I want to sell T-Shirts, Polo Shirts, Jackets, Knit Tops, Denim Wears, and Accesories. Any advice that I could use to start?

    -Thanks

So your starting from scratch? Well I know nothing about the fashion biz however I had some ideas for a fashon business for custom, american made handbags. But anyway.

Unless you get millions of dollars worth of funding, for a factory, assembly line workers, designers, and everyone it takes to make a fashion line work here are some places i would start:

    1. Start at ages 35 and work your way down to 16 and design a seperate line for teens once you become successfull...Unless a teen has access to their dads credit card, someone whos 16 isnt going to spend money on 250 dollar jeans and the whole nine yards. The older someone is, the larger their income/ savings also.

    2. Some items could be hand-made-to-order. Items like denim jeans, sports coats, etc... You could charge a higher price for this type of customization allowing each hand made item to be truely unique, however it would be labor intensive.

    3. With 2/3rds of americans over weight, many have a hard time finding luxury brand clothes that fit them. They have the money to spend, but many designers are smug when it comes to serving people that dont wear size 0...think about it atleast.

To be successful you need to have a unique idea, there is around 20,000 clothing companies in the USA, probably 7,000+ in the UK. They are a dime a dozen.

If you decide this is what you want to do, you need to find something that hasn't been done before. A new style, a new look, etc.

    Partnmers and contacts

    Hi there,
I had this similar idea for a long time. i am in the USA, and I am looking for partners overseas. You could live in UK, India, Brazil or any other country, it doesnt really matter. For last few years i ve been doing car tuning parts and accessories to Europe, South americas and Australia (intake, exhaust, lightning, etc). Most business would be done online, for which of course, a decent website is needed. It could be anything. What we need: a good market research, website, and have steady supply of product across Atlantic. i am open to ideas, if you have any.
