Are dating sites still a good business model, given the explosion of social networking sites? Yahoo Personals at one point trying to figure out how to fend off Nigerian Scams, men trying to pose as women and then ask money from potential dating partners. Isn't social networking better than dating sites?

interesting question
logically, one would think sn sites make for better dating platforms..caus of trust and so on..
but in terms of dollars, old school things like match, adultmatchmaker and eharmony make the bulk of the industry's profit because they have a better business model
...i do think that the younger generation of users is migrating to sn platform for "hook-ups", but really, the industry's cash cows are 30y.o.+ bachelors who are looking for matrimony...
for these guys, I doubt that facebook apps are gonna be much help because they're looking to meet strangers rather than friends of friends
..then again, I have no idea what i'm talking about
..i've been to more than a couple blind dates and they've all been disasters..i'm really not shooting for that sort of thing ever again
