how much [roughly] do you value the business at.

Also, how much would you sell, say 5%, for?

    Some questions I usually ask:

    1) Do you have a business plan? If no, forget about getting investors... if yes, got to question #2

    2) Does your BP include the necessary details for investors to value your business; i.e. let them decide whether what you are asking is appropriate?

    3) Has your BP got a good market breakdown?

    4) Does your BP provide a SWOT analysis of the company?

    5) Does your BP have a good marketing plan?

These are sort of the main things to consider, because any serious investor will need this information. And if I may give another tip, you generally have to prove that you're hardworking to an investor. Merely stating it won't do.

Never forget that you want something from the investor, not the other way around (not until after they've invested anyway). So be sure to promptly reply to emails and phone calls, or other inquiries. Also make sure that you keep reminding the potential investor to go through the information you sent him.

Remember that most investors research MANY opportunities before investing in one. Be sure that the investor at least remembers you(r company), and if possible, favors your company!
