Business Idea That Could Have Lots Of Potential

Have a pretty good idea. This idea will be built from the ground up, with the latest j2ee technologies available. My idea consists of an online ordering platform where consumers will have the option to order grocery's online, and pickup their grocery's at their local supermarket. This would cut lines in half, and be convenient for the consumer. When the order has been placed they will print out a slip to be given to the worker at the grocery store. Food will be bagged and ready to go for the consumer. This would be a very easy Click N Go. What do you guys think? If anybody wants to potentially come on board with more ideas please PM me or post here.

hmm why does it have to be in j2ee, you could have everything set up with php. anything online which involves ordering/forms can be done easily with php.

I guess it wouldn't have to be done in J2ee, just don't have any experience with PHP.

Here, let me re-explain this.. If you had an option to order your grocery's online from your local supermarket whatever that may be would you do it? Or would you rather push a cart all around the store and wait in a huge line? I think you misunderstood this as being one of those online grocery stores that deliver to somebody's house. I heard these stores have lots of spoiled rotten foods.

i think tesco offer this, they may allow you to pick up, but if your ordering online, then you may as well go the whole whack and get iot deliverd free.
The big chains like tesco (in the UK) will be difficualt to break through them barriors to entry.

I had a similar idea in this thread.

My new idea! Please tell me if its been done..

Interesting. This seems like an untapped market in the USA. I have not heard of anything remotely like it here.

True but what about a new target market? Like college students living in dorms? I think the idea is great, the problem seems to be that their target market is the general populace instead of something like I mentioned above.

My idea was more geared to established grocery stores. Not to start a new company. I still firmly believe having a platform to order online would be a good idea for these local supermarkets. There are a few larger grocery chains in USA. I think somebody has already done something like the above on here. Opening these delivery shops near colleges.

Walmart
WinDixi
Giant Eagle
Tops
etc..

History

Hmmmm.....

Try WebVan.com. This was to be the one that had online groceries and takes over the world. The CEO of Anderson Consulting left to get it started....a year or two later it is gone. If he had stayed at AC he would have had a fat pay check from Accenture's IPO I am sure.

Oh....and Kozmo.com was AWSOME! You never had to leave the house for ANYTHING, groceries, snacks, movies, etc. But they funded themselves from VCs more then profits and also went Bye Bye.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webvan

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kozmo.com

Its not that you cant make it happen.....you just have to do it right...and learn from other HUGE mistakes made by others doing the same thing.

Okay, heres the thing. I'm not trying to start up a grocery store. The idea behind this is to create a platform that will tie into the existing grocery stores POS systems. This would then give the option to consumers to order online or to shop the old fashioned way with their favorite local grocery store.
