Thank you very much...!
We partly and attempted to follow the rules of starting a business;
offline business - when you are opening your new business, let's say a restaurant for example, you print out signature banners, flyers, and send out invitations to people, especially VIPs, etc., inviting them to come to your grand opening, where you may offer food and or drinks for free.
At my school, they just opened a new BW3 (Buffalo Wild Wings or whatever you call it), on their grand opening, they offered free chicken wings for a year to the first 250 people who came to their grand opening, and dude, people started to line up at 3 AM, they slept in that line, just waiting for the place to open up at 10 AM that morning. There was a very long line, and it was the talk of the whole area.
So, you basically do all kinds of creative stuff to get the attention, but you also have to offer something that people actually need or want in order for them to start talking about it.
We too basically did the same traditional press release, but we didn't do it like Joost did it. Joost sent out their press release announcing their "in production" product, which created a lot of buzz before their actual launch, but by the time they launched, there were 3 or more other Internet based TV platforms that launched almost at the same time, which means, when they sent out their press release to the media, other people with money jumped on the idea and started developing similar platforms.
We kept it lip tight, applied for the utility patent protection, until we actually launched it on March 1, but we didn't send out our press release until May 1, because we wanted to do the troubleshooting first before anyone came to the site, but I guess when we uploaded the site, the search engines started to pick it up, so we started getting traffic and people started signing up before we even sent out our press release to the media.
So, when we sent it out, we have to make sure the press release is written by an experienced Page Ranking,
Xpress Press, and we have to make sure we use the most respected press release distribution service,
Page Ranking Newswire, so that it went directly to some of the world's largest and most respected news media outlets.
When the news media receives any press release, they read it, analyze it, and check out the subject matter, and if it's news worth, then they do a story on it.
So, to answer your question, no, we didn't contact anyone directly asking them to do a story on us. They came to us, based on our press release and our product.
There are two more national newspapers that are currently doing a story on our site, but I don't know when they will release it.
