Your advice please

Hy All,
If i bought the domain name to a character of a television programme with the same name that has not yet been purchased, AND is only weeks from first being aired on television and will be a hit. Will i
1 Get in any trouble with anyone ( some possible legal loophole ) ?
2 If i published the name on a website and plastered all these affiliate adverts with products in a similar vain to the program, should i stand to make some money ?
3 Publish the name with a webpage informing all that it's for sale and try to sell it on ?

This program is a sure fire hit and there is tonnes of merchandising to go with it ( but not from me ) The thing is the website domain name has not yet been bought........ i checked it out.

Cheers

There's people making thousands a day from domain squatting, so you might as well register it and see what happens. In most cases its probably legal, especially for a character, but in my opinion it isn't ethical. Then again, what is on the internet

Worst case scenerio whom ever the name actually belongs to will file a cease and desist order against you and ask that you transfer ownership over to them. They pay for the fee's and such of course.

How are they able to do this ? Does this mean if i set a company up and called it " WWW " could i approach every website as they would effectively have my company name in their title ?
I know this sounds extreme but it to me in laymans terms this is exactly what you are saying would happen in your statement.

Cheers for the info anyway.

I think $9 is worth the chance then. One more question though,

Is a .NET any good or a watered down .COM .CO.UK in terms of people searching for a website ?

i registered a domain name that infringed on copyrights earlier last month. The company sent me an over night letter asking me to stop immediately. The issue was dropped then and there.

I dont think any company/person wants to go through the hassle of sueing you. Attorney fees are killer. So if they are able to resolve the issue for free, they will.

So what is the worse that can happen if you develop your site? You get a warning and stop... good luck!
