Your 62 YOUNG Mentor is BACK!

Yes, I have been very busy mentoring a young University of Georgia Marketing grad whose owner has hired me at $100 per hour to bring the company into the 21st century in marketing.

I was blown away when this grad told me that he had NEVER shot video and that Georgia NEVER taught him any thing about Internet Marketing esp. Web 2 Marketing which is my specialty at our company WOW!Presentation. Here I am at 62 with over 25 years shooting video and TV and he has NEVER had one class! So now we are teaching him storyboarding, shooting and editing. By the way we are in the process of renovating and tweaking this site with a wonderful graphic designer I met right here. She already did our new logo at 7th Haven!

He has a VAGUE idea what SEO is so we have to bring him up to speed there too!

PLEASE go to a college or university that offers Internet Marketing.

I have a dear professor friend at Western Carolina University that teaches the Masters in Entrepreneurship Program. I have told Frank repeatedly that his students are going to be dead in the water without Web 2 Marketing. He is now getting the picture!

If you are not reading MediaPost and AdAge BOTH FREE then sign up NOW without fail! I read both EVERY day without fail!

Enough for now but if you need any advice in my area of Web 2 Marketing let me know as I'm BACK!

Yes, Phransizzle that is the way all of the Net will be going in the future. However it has to be HI QUALITY content as YouTube will start to yank down those weird crazy videos in 2009. Soon you will be having a situation there that is being called YouTube Adwords.

So make sure that you shoot HI QUALITY content even if it is a talking head!

Yes I have heard of that site but had no experience with it. Also are you aware of TubeMogul? Google it as it allows you to submit to numerous video sites for FREE like the expensive software does.

I am in the undergrad program at the university of Georgia, and I can honestly say they lack in providing any type of teaching for small business development. It is all focused around the classic corporation. There are two upper management classes that are venture creation/entrepreneur based. But, UGA is about to provide me with an amazing opportunity. My major Management Information Systems, has an exchange program with 5 students, and City University in Hong Kong. City University offers entrepreneur web development, and other great courses, so I am very excited about this opportunity.

But, I am glad you offer this feedback, because I feel like my degree is a waste of time, and here is some proof that It really could be, unless i go bottom up and need to get a corporate job.

If your professors would like for me to drive over from Atlanta and talk about Web 2 Marketing let me know. I am excited for your coming trip to Hong Kong - the entrepreneurial center of the East!

You could be taking classes like that at your school anyway. They may not be in the Business Department, per se, but they're out there. You get out of your education what you put into it.

Ya, but there is no degree in entrepreneurship. I am pretty sure if the types of classes I am looking for would be in the business department, being that they aren't I dont see how I could put in anymore to my education, considering I plan to take two electives devoted to small business and study abroad taking small business classes. Also, I am involved in a business plan competition. But, honestly I could care less about hearing what the "big four" have to say about job openings and opportunities

I am very excited ill have the opportunity to visit my suppliers for my retail business, as well as study in hong kong. Regarding web 2 marketing, me and my friend are working on a website that hopefully will be fueled by the client-side useability maybe down the road I could ask you some questions, not sure I can afford $100 an hour though. haha.

Pboy,

I am also in an undergrad program and to me, the degree does not really teach me anything and it is more of a networking opportunity. A lot of my mentors agree with this as you do not really learn too much from college regarding your degree because everything is always changing, but what you will learn are presentation skills that will help you significantly. Most fields of business can be self taught and that is why I have a hard time justifying a degree, but I am planning on expanding my venture to something big. With this is mind it would be important to pursue a career in the corporate culture after I graduate so I can learn the structure of a large business. A lot of businesses come to a plateau when they reach a certain amount of employees because they do not understand the structure of a large business.

Hong Kong should be an amazing opportunity! I've been writing a few research papers on business cultures and it has been really interesting to study the different communication styles of other cultures. Even though they have become so westernized much of the nonverbal communication is so different.

If you want to REALLY get a good degree in Entrepreneurship on either the BA or Masters level you might be surprised to find it at Western Carolina University where one of my mentors teaches the Masters of Entrepreneurship program online. Dr. Frank Lockwood, who heads the program, is a 20 plus startup serial entrepreneur who has also even been with the corporate financial world. Google "Masters of Entrepreneurship" and I think you will find it. If not let me know if you would be interested in speaking to him.

Hate to tell you guys, but if you're still in undergrad, you don't have a clue what your undergrad education is really providing you. I've been there, I know what you're going through, but you really don't have a clue. Don't write it off. Believe me.

Im not writing it off, but i plan to be an entrepreneur the rest of my life. It may be teaching some valuable communication skills or whatnot, but 4 years is a lot to give up for just that.

Well, first off, I dont plan to ever have a huge business, my goal is to make 250k a year and live in the mountains with less stress, sure id love to make millions and cash out, but I am being practical. But, about communiction and networking, I couldnt agree more, I recently changed my focus to business from science and so far I have met my current business partner for one venture, and I am involved in a business plan competition, entrepreneur club which is sponsored by benchmark capital, the speaker is one of their venture capitalists, and the great thing is after we present our business plans, if they are worthwhile they will mentor us until a successful launch, providing connections for funding, attornies and consulting. But, as far as my classes go, I am starting to study less and less, as my businesses become more prevelant.

Also with today's economy, i find it hard to justify going into the corporate job market, it is just too risky.
