Young Entrepreneur Competition
Hey guys and gals,
I was thinking that it might be fun to organize a ye competition. This is my idea, let me know what you think.
The idea is to have several groups of young entrepreneurs create a business all selling the same product. The competition will start with giving the groups three months to prepare a small business plan and develop their business, whether it be online or a "walk in" store. Then the groups will have to make it work. We will publish our results on a quarterly basis for a year. The team with the most successful business at the end of the year will win some sort of prize. Prize would obviously have to be determined later.
Groups would be created in teams of 4 randomly chosen by a non participating ye admin or member or the site.
Do you guys think that something like this might be fun or might work?

Sounds good in theory..
But it has been proven by the numerous "lets get together" attempts I've seen on here that it wont work. Call it a lack of experience, boredom, or commitment, but it wont work.
Now, if you said 'individual or make your own small team", it might work. Would need to be highly organized to keep people on track and not forget about a day later. Also, a year is way too long for this forum. People working on something last week have already moved on to something else. Also needs to be simpler then selling a product, perhaps more along the lines of a site/blog getting the most members.
snoop dogg resident, out.

Why not just make a website where people can upload a business plan for 5 dollars. Get some judges and make a winning prize with the money they used to enter. Sounds easy to me.....

The whole purpose of the competition is to create a business that works. Not to create a business plan. If you think about it this will give us "young entrepreneurs" an opportunity to create a business. If you quit or forget you lose not only the prize, but the profits you could have made from starting the company.
Choosing you own team makes sense because in a business you don't just get put with partners you find them and work together.

How much did you have in mind for prize money?

No offense (cool idea in theory) - but I think the majority of the members here on YE have a challenging enough competition with themselves to get any sort of working/profitable business off the ground, let alone a competition with others.
Perhaps this would work in a more local environment though...but here online? Hmmmm

None taken. I thought the same thing, but it seems like the members of the board are always starting new projects anyway, so what would be one more. Especially when they can boost their reputation, make money, compete with friends, and win a prize.
