yes, there is only one right way to start a business

if you start a business via some other way, your chances of failure increase exponentially

the right way to start your business, if you to wake up tomorrow morning, go see your if potential customers, make them promise you that they will buy your stuff when and if you have it, and then use these promises as collateral to make other people help you make the stuff, so you can sell it

that's the correct way to start a business

I believe to much research can hurt you. The anticipation's, the pro's, the con's, the advice you ask leads to pessimism or could led to optimism either way, most people get discourage after seeking advice from several individuals.

Build your product, give a few prototypes out and see how the market reacts.

    Ready, Fire, Aim.

    (JUST DO SOMETHING)

bboydocument, if you could provide us with some details with what type of business you're thinking of creating, we could point you in the right direction.

Do research, get a mentor in what you are looking to do, and don't give up

    Thumbs up

    Thanks for your replies guys.

Well, i've had ideas of running businesses that involve creating or manufacturing something etc...

example, ive got an idea for a software company, but have no idea where to start...
main reason is i dont know any programming myself, i dont know any programmers or developers, and i dont have any "capital" to pay anyone to help transform my ideas into software...

The same thing would apply to someone who has an idea for a... new mobile phone.. but they have absolutely no idea where to start, and HOW to start...

So you can have all these these ideas in you head, but the problem lies in taking initiative..

Sounds like procrastination. One my favorite quotes. ( I'll quite procrastinating when I get around to it.)

If you want something bad enough, you will make it happen. Do you have job? While you're saving start mapping out your idea on paper, then check sites such Programmer meet designer, barter with them.

They're many methods to bringing you ideas to life, but you must first put that initiative into action.
    God Bless,

    Jason

There's one one right way "to bringing you ideas to life"

Lots of ways to bugger it up

Only one way to do it properly

    Thanks for the valuable advice.
It's just a matter of getting the money together, I work part time and study full time...
the only reason i feel that i am studying a computer science degree is to understand programming/development, and to get educated in that industry, which hopefully will help me if i start a software company...

i think i'll stop procrastinating and get to work

as I've already explained, if you follow the only one right approach, you're not gonna have financing difficulties

if you do not follow this approach, you will have financing difficulties

where are you studying? I might know people at your uni.

this is an interesting topic, so I'll take the liberty to add a reflection

research, as in "market research", is often a useless, dangerous activity if it happens within the context of build first, sell second kind of thinking

typically, an entrepreneur wants to start a business. they'll go out and do this market research and specifically single out favourable market research (i.e. stuff that confirms their bias that they should start the business), whilst discounting all information that tells her that she shouldn't start the business

this kind of research is useless (because either way, if she does or does not do the research, the founder will start the venture) and dangerous (because the research neglected all negative data, leading to the founder starting a business which shouldn't exist)

the point: there is only one single reason why market research should be done. this reason is to signup potential customers. if the research doesn't result in a list of customers who'll buy the product/service when it's available, then the research should not have been carried out in the first place

Quoted because this is simply amazing. Exactly what I do.

3 words haven't made me think so much in along time.
