would small business owners take up this offer?

I am trying to gain a solid reputation as a good business consultant. I am recently out of business school with an MBA. I am wondering if any small business owner ( market cap of 500k), would allow me to essentially act as a "developer", and come up with ideas to improve the revenue and decrease the costs of the business. I would be willing to work for free, Actually; I would be willing to PAY MONEY to the business owner in order to get a job like this, working with a small business owner to improve the profit. I would be willing to pay money in order to ensure that if my ideas implemented are actually bad and cause a loss in profit, then they (the business owners) could keep the money to compensate for their loss in profits.

Street smarts mean more than book smarts when it comes to consulting. I dont know that for a fact, but I can say from my own personal opinion, I'd rather have someone consult with me thats worked in the industry for a number of of years and knows the ins and outs rather than someone fresh out of business school. No offense, but you're going to need to think about that, and come up with a solution that will get over peoples fears of bringing you on. I think if the price is right, it might work, but you cant really account for long term losses in revenue due to your mistakes that could ultimatly put the people out of business, and this cost would most likely be much higher than what you'd be willing to pay in compensation.

Well, I wouldn't be implementing any idea, it would be the business owner who would look over my ideas and see which one he/she would want to implement. plus, I would be doing it for free. Free help, even from an amateur-i dont understand how anybody could turn it down.

    no not really
at 500k u're looking at non professional management and no board
at this level, entrepreneurs do not like to have others tell them what to do
u'd be hard pressed to find anyone who'd gove u the time of day...let alone spend a significant amount of time to tell you about their business
..plus, the fact that u're young..
at any rate, this this probably bullshit..i don't know why u want the headache of dealing with small biz
apply for a job with BCG etc
