Would a chance to win an iPhone make you buy something?

I'm selling my own digital product. I wrote a guide on how to make money with Facebook. It goes for $37 on my website, and pretty soon will also be selling on ClickBank.

I'm currently promoting it by writing free articles, posting on different forums, signature links, and various around the web.

So far, one of the unique aspects of my sales pitch is that I'm donating 10% of the proceeds to the American Red Cross.

But I want to take it to the next level and really boost my sales. This is something that's rarely ever attempted in the realm of digital products.

Out of every 66 people who purchase the guide, I will giveaway 1 brand-new 8GB unlocked iPhone, which retail for over $500. Of course it's going to cut into my revenue by a huge amount, but I'll still end up with a decent profit.

For the customer, 1 out of 66 is really good odds. I highly doubt there's any online or offline iPhone giveaway with such good odds. Besides, they learn how to make some extra money with Facebook, and 10% of their purchase is going to charity so they're also helping out a great cause.

The only catch is they need to buy my guide, and if they win, they have to post a Youtube video stating their name and add a link to my site in the description.

Is this a good idea or will no one really care?

    Thanks for any feedback/advice.

    I don't like the idea.

I think something more relative to your book/guide would be more successful.

Making money on Facebook and iPhone's are not really related... Maybe you need to narrow down your target market if you think they are.

I would recommend, if you want to promote a prize, make it more specific to the Facebook social networking industry. Maybe 5 hours of your personal time to help the winner with ideas/applications/strategies related to their plans to make money on Facebook.

Also, don't really like the idea of donating 10% to Red Cross... those things never work for me (as a consumer).

Your strategies seems really mixed up... start working on a more unified marketing plan.

Identify your target market, do further research into them. Then identify your marketing objectives/goals and start developing some marketing strategies to meet those objectives/goals.

    PS: Nice sales page

Hmm okay. The reason I thought of iPhones is they're hot item, and people into Facebook are likely into iPhones. My target market is Facebook users who want a way to make money with their profiles, etc. Mostly college students looking to make some extra cash, that's my target.

I already have 3 free bonuses on my site which include a free audio book (sells on Amazon for $32), 34hrs of video tutorials on Internet marketing ($89 value), and 6 months of my free coaching/support.

So this promotion would just be to get more traffic to my site. You're right about the Red Cross thing though, I'll take that out. Thanks for the feedback overall. I can't really think of much else related directly to Facebook to give away. Any ideas?

Ok mate... thanks for letting me know your target market.

I originally thought the money would be made through Facebook applications :S rather then through the profiles. I didn't read your whole sales page (only ever make it through about a third of the way through usually - not a fan of HUGE sales pitches)

This makes a lot more sense.

I would suggest on your sales page and all your marketing communications you clearly identify that its money making through the users profile towards the top of your pitch. After now reading your sales page, you do go onto mention its through the profile, but as I said... I only made it through about a quarter/a third way down, and by then you hadn't gone onto talking about how exactly this money will be made (via just a profile).

Also, as a college student/Y-gen I think we all don't like big long sales pitches, they don't really work for us. We're a lot more skeptic and savvy. Since you are targeting this market, I'd recommending shortening your sales pitch dramatically, make it clear and concise. Use an opt in function (sign up with email) to lure the customer in... and then send them to a more detailed and easy to navigate page outlining more information.

Anyway, having had a further read and seeings you have identified a nice target market, your in better shape then I first thought!

    All the best mate!

^ Thanks a lot for the feedback. That just gave me a really good idea on what to do. I'll make a separate page that's more short/clear/concise with a Youtube video and an opt-in email under it. I appreciate the input.

I doubt anyone would come after you, and I'm not sure about laws in the UK, but the sweepstakes you are proposing would be illegal in the U.S.

For some people that aren't convinced that they should buy your product, the chance of winning an iPhone might just convince them. Also, if you would like to make more profit you could buy something cheaper to give away like an iTouch.

I don't think that giving 10% of your profit to the Red Cross is a good idea. I know, you are being generous, but that just wouldn't work for me.
